Sippy cup monster

My 11 month old - when he drinks from his sippy cup he just lets it all run straight out of his mouth and down his chin and clothing .... at first i thought he thought it was a joke or a game but now i think he doesnt realise that he has to swollow it . It is cute tho.. coz he smiles when its running out ...

How do i teach him to swallow it .. needless to say he cant have milk or juice only water or i end up with sticky patches all over the house LOL.

Cooper did that in the beginning.

What I did was let him take one sip/drink and took the cup away so he was left with a mouth full of liquid. I tried to have a drink close by so he could see me swallow. If not, I just encouraged him and tipped his head back just a little to allow the liquid to go to the back of his mouth (but not too far as I didn't want him to choke). After a day or so, he got the idea.

The first time he swallowed I went overboard with the praise. He looked so embarassed, it was like "geez mum, lay off". I wish I had a camera.

Thanks. I keep joking that I didn't enjoy the last Olympic Opening Ceremony so I am trying to avoid this one. It would be a cool birthdate though
