My ds has done this a few times. I've watched him sit up, sit for a bit then he will eventually lay back down. It's like he's finding a comfy spot again.
Maybe next time watch her and see what she does? She might do the same.

If her head starts rotating 360* while you're watching her tho (think the exorcist), best take her to see a Dr... Or a priest.

On a side note, glad the transition went smoothly (sorta... Well there are no tears so it's a win in my books XD)

Right now I am totally freaked out!! What do her eyes look like? Like, does she look 'vacant'? That's even scarier when they are looking at you but it's like they are looking through you....
Damn, how am I supposed to get back to sleep now???

This is quite common in children.
My DD used to have night terrors - she would be asleep but her eyes open and walking around the house terrified, screaming & crying. It freaked me out at first but once we read up on it and understood it, it made sense. Never try to wake them, it just prolongs it.

It really is no big deal. I still do this every now and then. DS1 has made me lie down a couple of times and takes great delight in telling me he "looked after me last night". It is a form of sleepwalking.

I saw this on tv once. There was this little girl who would sit in her bed in the dark either doing nothing (just sitting and staring) or she would "talk" and interact with invisible people . Her parents were really freaked out. It really looked like she was possessed or talking to ghosts or something. So they took her in for testing. And the test showed that she indeed was asleep during these episodes! In a really, really deep sleep. So it was a form of "sleep walking". It was her way to process what has happened during the day.

I used to sleep walk, too. I went to the toilet or played with my toys or just sat there looking creepy... . Mum just put me back to bed and I just continued sleeping there. The next day I have no memory of what had happened. I still do it today. DP says so, anyway. Sometimes I get up and get a drink, then have a full-on conversation with him and then go back to sleep. The next day when he wants to "continue" our conversation, I have NO memory of it! Freaks both of us out. Needless to say we have no secrets in our relationship. I couldn't keep one if I tried. Who knows what I will be saying during my sleep walk! Hehe

I'm home alone and totally freaked out after reading this!!!

I sleep talk ALOT. I apparently even yelled at DP once not long after DD was born and we were living in Ronald McDonald House as she was staying the Royal Children's.
I tried to take the blankets off his bed and he calmly (he's used to be doing strange stuff) told me that my blankets were next to me and that I was taking his.
I told him strongly that i needed them. He asked me why and told to me to get my own. I proceded to yell at him and tell him that I needed it so I could go to the ward and see DD. Weird stuff. :-)
Not long after DD finally came home from hospital he was up changing her during the night and I wandered out of our room, into her room and into the lounge room. DP called out to me but I just staggered back to bed. I don't recall any of it.

this is a funny thread. Creepy children! I can just imagine you standing outside the door trying to work up the courage to go in. Would freak me right out too!!

Glad the transition is going well apart from this though.

Heheheheh this is hilarious. I'd be SO creeped out too. I used to get chills when DD was a newborn and was all starey eyed in the dark. But that hands in lap sitting would absolutely terrify me. Ahh we are so silly.
I guess lots of kids do it, but not all parents check in, you know? Maybe stop checking in on her!

Once I was at my ex boyfriends house, and we were having a nap, or he was. I remember him turning towards me, asleep, but his eyes were wide open and rolling. He was sleeping with his eyes open, it freaked me right out.

But yes, what your daughter is doing is normal. It sounds like she is sleep walking, but not actually walking. I used to sleep walk when I was a child.

I sleep with my eyes open all the time. DP is always on at me about it. I'll turn to him. Stare for a second. And lay back down with my eyes still open.

I reckon it sounds like she is asleep and sitting up, and then with the newest of standing on her bed... that could be that she is thinking about her new skill of being able to walk everywhere in her shoes that light up that she is even doing it in her sleep!

She is still amazing (I am not bias at all being her favourite Aunty - I can write this here where the other Aunties wont see haha!), and not sleep deprived (just you are atm :P) ... hope you dont have to put a lock on the outside of her bedroom door incase she starts to leave her room in her sleep!

I know this sounds horrible, but my mum made me wear grobags (sleeping bags) to bed, so I wouldn't be able to walk too far when sleepwalking! She would always wake up from the "thud" when I fell over, so she could put me straight back to bed. Without the grow bag she wouldn't "hear" me moving through the house, so she couldn't stop me from doing something dangerous. Oh the joys of motherhood, hey?

I too think that she's sleep walking. If she is not blinking when her eyes are open then no doubt she is sleepwalking. I used to do this all the time as a kid, as did my brother. Mum used to gently guide us back to bed and we'd go straight back to sleep. We'd have no idea it was happening. The only time we'd get freaked out was if we got woken up and then we'd cry. Mum said it used to get worse when we were stressed or if something in our lives changed. So my brothers got really bad when we moved from Sydney to Tenterfield. Mum found him out in the middle of our street one night! Not to freak you out He was 7. Ahh, the funny things both my brother and I have done when sleep walking

Anyway, point is, as long as your gentle and she isn't woken it won't bother her at all. Just freak you out
