DS dropped from 3 day sleeps to 2 day sleeps at about 10 months, and since then it has been great: he has been having two days sleeps of about 1.5 hours each, occasionally two hours.
But in the last week, his two naps have gone down to 45 minutes each. I've tried all the usual nap lengthening techniques (re-settling, staying up longer etc), and none of it has worked.
My theory is that he seems to have undergone an emotional/social growth spurt of late, and he is just so excited about life all the time- everything is so much fun for him, its like the whole world has become even more big and exciting lately, and I think he just fights sleep so he can play, play, play!
He is tired when he wakes up, but perks up pretty well. He is hard to get to sleep too- plays around in his cot for ages!
I am just wondering is this sounds usual- ie- either a stage of development, or him just needing less sleep, or if I need to really work on getting him to sleep more. Sometimes I think he is tired and needs more sleep, and other times I think he seems fine and will sleep if he's tired.
DD dropped down to one sleep at 11 months! It could just be that's all he needs now. Even with one sleep, DD may only go 1hr15mins. Mind you saying that, she has picked a sleep back up this week - don't know whats up with that!
Jessica I know exactly what you mean about keeping changing routines grrrr! DD just dropped from 3 to 2 naps a day recently (still a work in progress at times!) and she was similar to your DS - all 3 of her naps dropped to 40 minutes each. Once she settled into a routine of 2 naps and set the times for herself each one increased again so she now has more sleep over two naps than she did spread over three. It's been a bit of a transition time though, getting to 2 naps.
You might find if your DS starts having one nap he may well take a longer sleep than the two short ones combined at the moment.
DD's also been teething (cut her first two teeth in the last week) - could your DS be teething atm?
