    sleeping Issue

    Hi

My DS who is nearly 6 months old has just started waking several times a night. We have a toddler sleeping in the next room so i jump up and put his dummy back in and this seems to be happening more and more (i don't want my toddler to wake as well). He still has a night feed about 3am, but he used t sleep right through till feed time, then he would just nod straight back off. Just wondering why... the dummy seems to satisfy him, so i don't think its a hunger issue.... He just expects me to jump up and put it in when he is not sleeping... I am so tired. Any suggestions would be great.

do you think it could be a growth spurt? You could always pop an extra feed in for a few nights to even a week and then trial dropping the extra feed again to see if your little one goes back in to the routine of sleeping through. Other than that, its a tricky one if the dummy is their comfort - imo I'd try the extra feed before even worrying about the dummy side of things and if the extra feed doesn't work after a week, it might be worth considering training your little one to not need the dummy to settle? You could trial this idea if your little one has day naps by putting them down with the dummy and then if the dummy gets spat out, see if you can help them re settle without it? It'll take a bit of time but might help in middle of the night settling as well as ensuring you get more sleep!! Just a few thoughts lovey.......

Could he be teething? I recall my DS started to wake around that age with teeth troubles - although a quick visit wouldn't remedy the situation so maybe it's not that......sorry not much help here! Also, try to do what you did with your first child as he may be expecting a visit for a little grizzle when really he might be able to self settle - it may not wake your toddler after all (or your toddler might be easier to resettle if it does). I think a second born cild can be responded to more quickly for that very reason but this could set up a pattern of waking and expecting you there.

Thanks guys, he woke again at 12.00 last night and instead of waiting to feed him at 3.00am, i just got up and fed him. He went on to sleep till 6.30, only waking at 5.00am for his dummy. Maybe it is a growth spurt??
