just wondering if anyone else's babies hadn't gotten back up to their birth weight by week four - i have been seeing my dr every week but nothing seems to be getting anywhere except weighing elysia each visit - elysia was 4.525kgs born & 3.94kgs when we left hospital - she is still exactly that weight - i bought an electric breast pump so i could make sure she had at least 100mls each feed (should it be more) she is still active & what i consider doing "normal" baby things & has enough wet & pooey nappies a day - just getting a bit worried about lack of weigh gain & thought some one might be able to put my mind at ease
thanks for your help
elysia finally put on some weight last week - only 120grams but at least that is something - she has her shots on thursday so will see if she has gained anymore - i did speak to a mchn & she was great - everything else was right with elysia cept the weight gain - they ruled out failure to thrive so fingers crossed she gains some more weight
My son Parker didn't gain his birth weight back for about 4 weeks too, we were not allowed to leave hospital till he was almost 2 weeks. He ended up being diagnosed with reflux at 6 weeks, so looking back I think that was part and parcel with that. If it helps any he is at the lower end of normal weight now (he is almost 3) but he is more than on target for all developmental skills.
i read somewhere the other day that if bubbas have heart murmers then it can cause weight loss or small weight gain. maybe ask if they can listen to your baby's heart to try to hear a murmer.
please DONT FREAK OUT by this, it is merely a suggestion and he is probably fine. :-)
