Well, summer is almost upon us (well, here in the Riverland anyway. It's 27 degrees here today and quite sunny).
What sunscreen do you recommend that I could use for my little six month old DS? He'll be wearing clothing and hats, of course, but I want to protect the skin on his face, arms and legs.

: sorry, put this in the wrong place.
Baby suncreens are probably the way to go... they usually have a few types at the chemist. I have heard that they don't recommend any sunscreen for bubs under 12months, but I think in our type of climate it is more important to protect against it.
Thank you for moving this Ambah. Bit of a dork for putting it where I did - tired from a rough night with the boy.
I went to the chemist and the girl there said that I shouldn't use sunscreens because they have so many chemicals in them. The summers here are extreme and I don't even go outside in the winter without sunscreen on. Daniel's skin is ten million times softer than mine, so I would dread him getting any sunburn at all.
I will check out the chemists again, but I won't be putting the cream on anything that will go in his mouth or eyes (eg: put on legs and back of neck maybe - then his face will be exposed).
He will hardly be going outside during summer but the short amounts of time he will be will concern me. Thank you for those suggestions. They are the brands I have been looking at.
Hi there, I recently went to the Chemist to see what I should get for DS almost 5months & they didn't recommend any of the sunscreens either as he is still very young. But had to get something, it's around 30 here already!! Anyway, the Chemist recommended a QV moisturiser for sensitive skin, much better for little one's I was told, it was approx $12 if I remember right. It's a moisturiser for sensitive skin with SPF 30....HTH.

: spelling
Olivia is a red head and as a baby she was in the pool a lot (in the NT). I am a bit paranoid about her skin. We used a baby sunscreen from the Cancer Council.......
i used Ego toddler milk form the chemist for DS last Summer he was only 6 months old and he has sensitive skin and never had a problem with it. I definately agree that bubs needs some sunscreen, better to have some chemicals on his skin than to get sunburnt i reckon.
I gotta get some too as we will be in Bali in 19days (yes I am counting it's been almost 5yrs since I been home!)
I also need some insect repellant... I recall YEARS ago I got a suncream, insect repellant, moisturiser all in 1 it was Vaseline & safe for kids, but i havent seen it for a long time!!!
Jake was a tiny newborn last summer so were paranoid about him burning and he was too young for the baby sunscreens. SO I spoke to my pharmacist who recommended Sun Sense Low Irritant sunscreen it's in a white tube with a purple label. It is free of chemical absorbers and in titanium zinc based so therefore protects the skins through the reflective particles on the skin surface. You do need to reapply after swimming etc. I also am super sensitive to sunscreen and get cystic acne from most bcos of the absorbers - I don't react at all to this one. HTH!
I guess Zy will not really be out in the sun, as we will be shopping HEAPS (LOL) Indah will however be swimming so she's almost 2 so it should be Ok for her!??
Zy will be inside asleep, in village with inlaws fussing, in HAB etc... So not so much out in the sun!
