Terrible 15mth?
Instead of terrible twos has my DD started her terrible period already? She screams, chuck tantrums, scratches and pinches me and also bites me! Like before, she bit me so hard i was in tears!!!!!!!!!
How do you discipline a child this age? Man if this is not the terrible two's i am not looking forward to the real deal!
I'm going through this with my 16 month old and yes it seems to have started towards the end of 14 months.
I was taking the tact of putting on a serious voice and saying no and putting her down and moving away from her but in the past couple of weeks this has made things worse. Then on Sunday it hit me (and after reading some things too). I read and realised that a lot of the time when kids this age act out it's because they are seeking attention. I've noticed that when I pay my daughter attention and play with her, she doesn't throw tantrums. Sometimes she will play bite me when we are playing but I'm getting really strict with that and telling her that she can't bite at all. I also noticed that she will hit me if I either take something off her that she shouldn't have, or if I smack her. If she "smacks" me when I've smacked her then I try another tactic, like talking to her in my serious voice or taking something away. DH and I have just recently started taking things away. She had a little chair which she loves to carry around, but recently started standing on it. After we told her off about it we decided to take it away. We gave it to her on the weekend after it had been away for a couple of weeks but then after a while she started standing on it again so it's been taken away.
Hi, yep terrible twos can start eary...dd1 started around 15 months as well. The tantrums, the screaming, the flop and drop, kicking, you name it. What I did notice though is that when she hit 2, she had a word explosion and was able to express herself a fair bit more and the tanties died down, then a month later she had another word explosion and less tanties. She is still a terror at times, but I am able to talk to her and reason with her to an extent. Shes 2 years and 4 months now. She still has the odd tantie, shes at times terrible to her sister, but its much better than when she was unable to express.
As for discipline...mmmm....just try whatever you think works. Time out, walk away from tantrums, talking. It is a hard age.
At 2 and a bit, I talk, I give consequences with reasons (not that she likes that and it makes things worse at times) i send her to her room and I take dollies away.
