just wondering if you can give me any info about toungue tied, as my dd is 10 days old and is tongue tied, just wondering if we shoud get it cut or not. and if i dont is their any problems with speach?

Both my twins were tonuge tied. My DS had an op for something else when he was 11 months old, so we got his tongue tied fix then. My DD we didn't get fixed and she has had no probs. Their tongue tie really wasn't that bad anyway. My newphew was tongue tied as well, and my hubby had to take him for my SIL to have his tongue pinched. They just cut it at doctors. He only sooked a little bit and there was no blood. he was around 6 weeks old.

My eldset son has a slight tongue tie. So slight that it was never picked up. I only realised myself a few years back and he will be 15 in October. Whenever we asked him to poke his tongue out he only did it alittle. Funny, now I look back I just thought he was being coy...He never had a problem bfing and has never had any speach problems. Sometimes now though it annoys him. I tell him we could probably still get it snipped but he isn't sure.
Maybe talk with your GP or Paed and see what they say. I guess it also depends on how bad it is too.

It depends on the severity of the tonuge tie where it needs to be fixed or not. My DF had a tongue tie but they didn't realise until he was 5 and he always talked with a lisp, so he had to get it cut and then had to learn how to talk properly again with a speech therapist, but i think this is more rare now. Anythoer problem they may have is with breastfeeding, but again it depends on the severity of it.
my dd is slightly tt - they thought it might affect her ability to b/f but she's the best little feeder...still going strong after 11 months!!!!!!!!!!!
Tegan's right, it depends how sever the tongue tie is.
Milo had a mild one, but his attachment was causing me so much pain that I had it properly assessed, and they snipped it, when he was 6 or 7 weeks old.
MIL said DH had one too, but he wasn't breastfed past 5 weeks, and it was never snipped - it didn't affect his speech at all.
Louis had a tongue tie and we got it snipped when he was only 2 weeks old. He didn't even notice as they sprayed him with a anaesthetic spray. We were told that he had a medium level tongue tie. The dr said to us that it's just as easy to fix it and then at least potential problems down the track are avoided.
Jack had a tongue tie and wasn't able to attach to bf, although the midwives didn't think his tongue tie was the problem. At 2 weeks a GP specialising in tongue ties saw him and said it was severe enough to be causing the feeding probs and could also affect his swallowing and speech. We researched the issue and at 3 weeks, after feeding with nipple shields, 2 bouts of mastitis and a very windy baby we had it snipped. We are so glad we did, Jack was able to attach straight away for a bf and all the other problems we had went away. There was only a drop of blood and didn't appear to be pain.
I too would do the same again if this bub is tongue tied. Having said this it is entirely your decision. Do some research and be sure you are comfortable with the decision you make.
My DD is slightly tongue tied & we have had no probs 2.5 yrs later. She does have a little lisp but I think that is age related nothing to do with her tongue as such. We fed really well for ages etc...
My paed has said the only complication we may have in the future is that she will not be able to turn her tongue over in her mouth to get food out of her back teeth. The tie restricts this movement & she may more prone to cavities as she can't clean her teeth of food.
I have had no reason to cut it, & no one has really said it should be done so I am happy to leave it & see how she goes.
