Well DH has to go interstate for work and we are going with him. I have not left the state or anything since having DD and I have no idea what to take or anything!
Help
we are leaving in the next few days so I dont have very long eeek.
We are traveling with virgin blue and staying in Melbourne city. I will be on my own with no car during the day but that is ok as we are in the city.
Help, what do I need to take?
The only thing I can think of is clothing, toys, nappies her sleeping bag.
And how does it work when she needs milk in the morning and before bed?
IF you are staying in a hotel phone and check to see if you will have a bar fridge available...or microwave. Bring a few snacks. Because you don't often want to run out just for something like sultanas if you can help it Whenever we have travelled I've packed enough for 1 extra day. With Melbourne, I would pack extra warm clothes and a t-shirt jic.
I bring a nappy bag packed for a full day out for the plane trip & then I pack a small bag for the kids (one each) with nappies, clothes & sleeping gear. I pack all the bathroom stuff together for the family with a spare washer for the kids. I also pack a few extra toys for when we get there & I always buy them something small to play with for plane travel. So something like a sticker book... toy plane etc.
Dont' forget whatever is needed for the bedtime routine, toys, books, music etc, just to help you DD off to sleep in a new environment. If you don't want to lug around nappies, you can buy a small pack once you have arrived.
I found the carrier helpful on the plane. I assume you're bottle-feeding, and don't know how old your DD is, but you might want to give her a bottle on the plane or if she's older something to suck on for her ears.
Have a great time away!
I have been travelling with DD interstate on average every 8 weeks since she was about 12 weeks old. The first piece of advice I can give is - DON'T PANIC. If you're taking a stroller, that will take out half of your hassle.
I found at about that age the biggest problem was the airport, but if you can keep her restrained, it's a HUGE help. And if you have no car, and plan to go for walks around the city, again, the stroller is a big help.
Virgin in my experience has always been good with us. I often travel with her by myself, and they have always been really helpful. Like Snacks said, definitely take something for her to suck on during take off and landing. She can't equalise her ears, so if yours are popping, then something to suck on will help her equalise hers.
As far as 'living' in a hotel, I'm afraid that I can't help you. Wherever we have gone, we have made sure that we had a self-contained apartment, or at least a kitchenette. I guess at 15 months she eats pretty much what you guys do, and there are ways of heating a bottle without a microwave.
And as Astrid said, anything that you will need to settle her. You just don't know how she's going to be at night. The more comforts of home, the happier she will be. At that age I generally took a few books, small toys, favourite teddy and her blankie. I remember how much I used to take with me, and how little I SHOULD have taken. You actaully don't need HEAPS, just her favs. During the day it is a lot easier to amuse her, it's night time that you want her to settle.
