All my 3 babies were tummy sleepers from day dot! I was guilty until i had my 3rd and was told by a paed that in her experience tummy sleeping is often seen with babies who are strong (able to hold their heads up off the bed for short stints soon after birth) and that it also seems to run in families. She said it was about 1 in 9 or 10 babies.
We never had the central heating on at night because I find it dries out my nose and throat so didn't allow it! We also made sure we didn't use bumpers when they slept in the cot but they co-slept with me alot too.
Make sure the mattress is firm, have good ventilation, don't over wrap (I never swaddled mine) and follow all the other sleeping guidelines
thanks sassy for bringing this up. I was having this same convo with dh today because dd settles straight away on her tummy..... my mch nurse said the other day its just a recommendation.... we also have a sound and movement monitor which eases my anxieties
the stupidest thing ever was DS when he was small he loved sleeping on his tummy but he would have to be laid on his back and about 3 times when he rolled onto his tummy he had to be put on his back until he went to sleep then he would sleep all night perfectly fine now he sleeps with the blanket over his head on his tummy right in the corener of the cot
Cam was the same...i use to put him on his tummy to sleep during the day too- when i could keep an eye on him. Then from when he started to roll over...which he did back to tummy first from 3months, i'd find him on his tummy after most sleeps. And i find he still sleeps the same now. Josh was not such a fan of tummy sleeping, but I've found over the last week he is now also a tummy sleeper too- they take after me.
