Using a proper cup...

Hi there
Just wondering when your little one starting using a cup without a lid and drinking properly from it?
DS is almost 2 and can drink from a cup without a lid but it's messy and I no where near trust him to leave it our for him cause he runs around with it and it spills everywhere.
We went to a friends house not long ago and they were suprised that he couldn't drink from a normal cup properly yet.
Is this normal or should he be doing it by now?

My DS loves to drink from a normal cup, but like yours, cant be trusted, and I only give him a couple of mm in the bottom at a time... And he only get it in his high chair, or when we are out, and he will sip from my cup, with me holding it.... My FDC told me he was interested in the cup after watching the older kids with it, and so I tried him out and it seemed to work. We just use a smallish plastic cup from my picnic set...

We have a sipppy cup that is like a real cup, but sealed, and ds loves that. I got it from fluffylimes store... It is good, in that he can lug it around, but no spills... unless it falls on its side for an extended period and a little leaks out, but it is generally good.

My little one's not toooo far off 2, and I am going to let him practice over summer with a quarter of a plastic cup of water at a time. I don't think it's something that is totally vital that a 2 year old can do, but Summer's not a bad time to let him get in some practice!

I've been thinking about introducing a real cup. DD is 21 months old. I might start over summer when she's outside or while sitting in the bath or on tiles or lino where it's easy to clean up. (our house has carpet everywhere exept the kitchen, laundry & bathroom/toilet

my DS is two and a bit and drinks from a proper cup, we dont leave him alone with it though as he likes to pour it in to his bowl then back into his cup etc etc lol. He has only just got the hang of not spilling it down his front although still does when he gets to excited iykwim.

My DD is 29 months old -nearly 2.5 and can be trusted with a half cup of liquid. She has been quite good from about 21 months but still needed reminding each time that it didnt have a lid. Now she's great, drinking from one atm!!!!
