Hi
I have a DS who will be 15 mnths in a few weeks. He is my 2nd born child.. My first DS wlked at 14mnths, so I just presumed that this one would be the same. But no he is still confidently walking along furniture , but wont walk on his own, Isnt this late? he has taken 1 or 2 steps but then just falls on the ground. he can walk holding onto our hands etc, should I wait a little longer or get him into seeing someone. he was born full term.. Also he has about 5words in his vocabularly, Duck, jack, Mum Dad & Ta… A very very clingy child , loves to be carried around (hmm maybe I should stop this- its also killing my back) He can climb like no tomorrow and is very independent, just not keen on walking.
I wouldn't be worried yet, he's still within a very normal range, and it's not as if he isn't moving at all, he's just got a different timeframe to his big brother. Plus, he's got people to help him out, bring him things, carry him places... The number of words is okay too, think that they look at them having around 10 words by 18 months, you'll probably find he has a bit of a vocab explosion before then. At 16 months I thought my DS would never talk, by 18 months, he had 30+ clear words. And now I can't keep him quiet
My DS is 17 months and only started saying Dad with purpose last week. Walking he started at 13 months. It doesn't bother me though because I can see him communicating, he just isn't doing it verbally - he gets his point across!!
Like BhoysGirl said he's got people to bring him things and carry him around so while he is actually cruising furniture I wouldn't be worried at all. He is mobile and can say words so at this stage I wouldn't worry too much.
My DD will be 15 months this week and sounds very similar to your DS. She only has a few words and most of them aren't very clear, but she gets her meaning across through pointing. She will only walk holding on to hands. She has taken a couple of steps on her own at times but that's very rare. I'm not worried at all at this stage.
I wouldn't be too worried yet - my 1st son didn't walk til 18 months. It could just be his personality.
As for the talking, sounds fine to me (although my first still hardly talks and sees a speechie), just keep reading books and finding ways to introduce words. Your MCHN should be able to reassure you (if you have a decent one).
