Hi, this could be a really dumb series of questions but I want to make sure I get it right!
We are using disposable nappies, but of course baby clothes still get dirty with things like wee, poo, vomit, milk etc. So what exactly is the routine with them? I've heard about dry pailing nappies etc, but wanted to get the low down on the easiest and simplest method of dealing with them. Do you just chuck the dirty stuff in an empty bucket until you've got a load? Or do you soak everything in Napisan? Do you wash everything in Napisan or in one of those sensitive skin washes? What about tumble drying things like Wondersuits (it says not to on the label)?
Help - tell me what you do and what works best (and is easiest)!!!
I keep a spare nappy bucket available for soaking clothes that get wee, poo, and vomit on them. I use a solution of 1/2 cup bicarb soda, a few drops of tea tree oil, and about a cup (don't measure) of white vinegar, then fill the bucket up with cold water. I leave the clothes to soak in there until I do washing, then just wring the clothes out, chuck them in the machine with the full load, wash with Purity sensitive detergent, and try to dry the stained stuff in direct sunlight.
I do not put any of DS's new stuff in the dryer - only the 2nd hand clothing I've been blessed with. Otherwise, everything goes on the line or gets hung around the house if I have to do washing when it is raining. I hope this helps...
I just rub stains with stain remover, I use the Sard one which can be left for 7 days, and then throw in the laundry basket till washing time (which is most days!). Whites I do on a 'soak' cycle with Omo and they come up fine. I've never washed Xanders' stuff seperately from ours - initially I just used a sensitive washing powder for everything.. now he is older I just use regular omo with no probs. I've never needed to use Napisan and the like.
Many things that say 'do not tumble dry' seem to survive the dryer just fine... I've always tumbled the wondersuits... I figure they grow out of them before the dryer would do any major damage anyway. His 'good' clothes I do prefer to line dry where possible and installed a small retractable line under our patio for this purpose (I line dry nappies anyway).
What I do, is put all of Annika's white stuff to soak in a bucket with napisan, regardless of how dirty it is. Then, with any colours, if she has really made a mess of them, I'll give them a spray with stain remover, and put them in with the whites, if I know the colours won't run. Everything else just gets washed whenever we have the time. HTH
If it gets spewed/pooed/weed on, i soak it in napisan until we get the chance to do a load of washing. I dont like to do a load just for a couple of Claires outfits. When we do wash them, they just go in with everything else and we use normal washing detergent for her clothes. She hasnt had any skin probs from it. We tumble dry her Wondersuits if they arent going to dry on the line. They havent shrunk or anything yet.
We just rinse out the mess and leave aside until we wash them, we haven't had any stains that didn't come out yet *touch wood*. Using a clothes dryer is only new to us so we don't dry anything that says don't tumble dry. We wash her stuff in normal washing powder, but half the amount. We did use lux flakes initially but it was a pain and left a yucky residue on the washing machine. We use cloth nappies and we just rinse the mess off with water, wring out with hands and then place in bucket and put the lid back on - we find that they do have to be washed within 2 days otherwise they start to go mouldy - blah!
I always had a soaking bucket(with nappisan, I haven't found anything that works as well) so anything soiled got rinsed and thrown in the bucket, when I was ready to wash I'd just tip the whole lot into the washing machine. Like Karina I would put wondersuits in the dryer if needed.
I just rinse Sari's clothes that get soiled then put some Sard on the marked spots until I do a load. I will mix our clothes together if need be as I use the same for all of us, Amolin. Pretty much everything goes in the dryer here too, life is too short to be hanging out clothes every day! If there are some things that obviously cant go in there, I have a clothes horse in the laundry.
If TJ's clothes have poop stains then I soak them in nappysan till I do the next load. If they have milk/wee then I find that just washes out easily when I do the next load (tends to be every 3 days). When I was in Tassie I didn't have a nappy bucket so I just rinced out the muck and put it to the side (in the bathroom) till I did the next load! Sometimes I've left stuff in the nappysan for a week while waiting for a load! Lol! It's really whatever works for you!
I wash Nic's clothes in Lux flakes as I love the smell and it is good for sensitive skin. I put all of his stuff in the dryer too as we don't have a clothes line at the moment. I do two loads a week for Nic as he has reflux so it doesn't take long to fill up his dirty clothes basket!
