    We may have gone overboard...

I'm at my mum's alone at the moment, a little bored, so I dragged out all the baby clothes we have here so I could see what needs a clean, etc... I think we may have bought a bit too much when it comes to clothes. Just at mum's, not counting what I have at home or at my nan's place, I have:

Fourteen Short sleeve jumpsuits (five 000s,four 00s, four 0s, and one of unknown size),
Twelve Long sleeve jumpsuits (nine 0000s, one 000, and one 00),
Twelve Singlets (five 0000s, four 000s, one 0, and two unknown),
Five shirts (three 0000s, one 000, and one 00),
    Three 0000 pairs of pants,
    two jackets,
and a heap of odds and ends (socks, hats, mittens, etc)

Disregarding the sizes, do you think I have enough to clothe my baby?
Admittedly, some of the clothes are pretty ugly and most likely won't be used, but this looks like a lot to me...

Its so easy to go overboard isnt it! There is jsut so many cute things out there!

I actually think your list is okay as you have things for the next sizes up.

I found the thing that we used the most was the onsies (the all in one suits). I dont think you will need many short sleeve ones. Seeming your due date I'm thinking will be around May??

Also maybe swap some of the 9 0000 long sleeve jumpsuits for some 000 ones.

The other thing I found was that we didnt use pants and tops very much as they are harder to get on and off a baby. The all in one suits you just lay them out, put the baby on top of it and do it all up IYKWIM.

    Have fun shopping

Well, whatever I don't use for this one, I can use for the next. Some of what we have are gender-specific - whatever I have, I'll be excluding some. I have nothing against girls in blue, or boys in pink, but a sparkly shirt that says "daddy's little princess" may be a bit weird if I have a boy

Both pairs of pants I have are part of sets, so I'd only really use them (if I do) along with the matching shirts.

When I first started counting, I thought "Oh no, there's too many big things!" but then I hit a large pile of 0000s and all was well lol

easy to do for number 1 isn't it?
Look out though, you might have a monster - the only time DS wore a 0000 was home from hossy and then never again - and he was only 9lb1oz.

Ohhh don't be so mean Actually, I've looked through them all again (I can't help it they're soooo cuuuute!) and I reckon some of the sizes are a bit off - a few of the "0000s" look bigger than some of the bigger sizes. Most of them are second-hand, some even from overseas, so hopefully I won't be too lost if I have a big baby I'm a bit scared that I might have a little teeny tiny one that won't fit into any of these though!

don't worry - I had the other end of the scale with a tiny DD who I had to get mum to go and get some 00000's for cos we had no clothes she fit.

That's okay It's part of the reason I put the sizes in my original post - I'm not 100% sure myself of what sizes I should be getting, so I figured if I added in the sizes people would tell me if I was wrong

From what I've gathered (and please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong!) 0000s should fit a newborn?

0000's never fitted #1 really. He was 9lb4oz.

0000's fitted #2 for quite a bit, 3-4 weeks maybe? He was 7lb90z.

Much of sizing has to do with length in my experience. #1 was and still is fairly slender but was long, so tends to be right on, or ahead of age sizing. #2 was and still is a short and plump one so tends to be right on or behind the usual size/age for clothes.

My DS was 9lb & 53cm long. He only wore 0000 once!! Next time I'll probably bypass 0000 as it doesn't matter if their 000 suits are baggy for a couple of weeks.

DD was 8lb1oz, and I had to send mum out for some 0000s. But then, they didn't get worn heaps. As Cheezelmonster said, they can wear slightly baggy 000s if they have to.

I found with sizing it also depended on the brand - in the Bonds wondersuits, DD was out of the 0000s within a matter of weeks, but then some english stuff for 0-3months fitted her till she was around 6months. She also got bought a gorgeous outfit from David Jones (I think the brand was Bebe) which was 0000 and that fitted her till around the 3month mark.

Some shops will let you take them back to swap sizes as long as you have the receipt and leave the tags on. So you could always just wash a couple of the 0000s and then if you don't need the rest, take them back and swap for the next size.

Its so hard not to go overboard though isn't it!! I have to avoid the baby section now, because I just want to buy some stuff - not much point though since we don't know what we're having and have so much little girl stuff in boxes!!

DP was 3kg (6 pounds 6) and the 0000 seemed big on her at first. Seven weeks on, she's still in the 0000s. DP accidentally dressed her in a 000 the other day and she looked ridiculous.

We have eight little 0000 onsies and we've probably got too many clothes for her. Having said that, we got very lucky and got a baby that doesn't throw up. I might be ultra lazy but she just wears the one outfit from bath to bath, so for about 24 hours. On cooler nights I just put the long sleeved jumpsuit on over the top. She isn't dirty (and I have a sensitive sense of smell) and I just don't see the point in upsetting her by trying to change her clothes.

I wouldn't buy any more clothes, as difficult as that is, because people give you clothes. A lady who knows my mum's cleaning lady delivered a huge sack of designer baby clothes with a range from six months to 2. She was keeping them for a second child but discovered the second one is going to be a boy. And she thought the clothes were too nice for the charity bin so she asked around for someone who knew someone with a baby.
