Just a question from a very over-cautious first time mum...
I just had a check-up and had my DS weighed and measured. He's always had really good gains, the smallest being 340g over two weeks. But today he had only gained 140g over two weeks. He had also grown 2cm in that time though, so maybe he'd been doing more growing than weight gain??? Is it normal for weight gain to slow like this about now? I just know I'm going to obsess and worry about this if I don't find out .
His gains sound fabulous, they often go through spurts of bigger and smaller gains, DD was very sporadic with her gains, a big week then a small week and so on.
With the smallest being 340grams a fortnight his would have been averaging about 170 grams a week at least, which is well within the average of 150-170grams a week (which is what our Paed wanted DD to gain).
We weren't achieveing this.. But when he saw her at 6 months she had averaged about 135grams and he said she looked perfect, and said not to worry about what he had said as she looked proportionally right
Overtime the gains will tend to drop off a bit as bubs can't maintain the gains like they do when the are wee wuns for ever!
If he is happy and content then I believe you can rest and be very proud of what you have achieved! He sounds like he has been doing all the right things
Babies can grow in length and not put on as much weight in some weeks - it's pretty normal. DD2 gained 500g in 5 weeks so only 100g a week but she is still on the 50th and growing consistently so the MHCN isn't concerned. It sounds like you are doing a good job.
