Weight loss in 2 year old. Any Ideas?

    Hi all,

DD jumped on the scales today and in the last 4 weeks she has lost 500 grams. I'm rather concerned even though she's happy enough and eating well (as well as she ever has anyway ). We wormed her a couple of weeks ago but she's lost more weight since (200grams) so I'm thinking that's not it. I think she's a tad stressed with her sibling due soon and developing so much at once. Any ideas?

Last Dr visit that was 8 weeks ago everything was fine health wise apart from the end of her 2 year old molars coming through (all through now). Going to run it by my Ob next visit too and see if she can suggest someone to see.

    Thanks in advance!
    CL

    How much does she weigh?

My 3 year old I'll often hop on the scales, in a week she lost 500g, but a week later she had it back.

Remember that adults can fluctuate up to a kg a day, so can a child. A big glass of water weighs 200 mls.

The fact that she is happy and healthy, indicates there is probably not much wrong.

I let MJ talk about the baby and do as much or as little as she wanted to do when she arrived, it slowed me down, but she coped and adapted to her new sister really well...

They slow down a lot in the second year and with molars they often don't want to eat. Dd2 lost about 700g just after turning 2, she has gained it back but is only 100g heavier at 2.5 than at 2. She is about 5cm taller though! If all else is ok I think it is fairly normal.

Weight gain does slow down around 2 years old. My 4 yo has been at the same weight for about a year now - she eats well but she does run around alot and has grown taller but not wider. I'd say that this is fairly 'normal' and nothing to worry about.

I wouldnt worry. DD is 2.5 and has been up and down since just before 2. Over the length of that time, she has gained weight overall though. Last week she was up to 15kg, this week shes back down to 14.4. Thats just her...

I too wouldn't be too concerned, DD1's weight can change from 1 day to the next depending on teething, sickness or overall activity.
Does she have a healthy appetite, is she active, happy, using her bowels 'normally' etc.. if so then i def would stress too much.
DD1 is going through a stage of not eating very well, she's got a cold, hardly touches breakfast, will snack little bits but not eat a lot of lunch or dinner, it's getting very frustrating but i'm putting it down to 2yr old attitude and not feeling well.
