What age is ear piercing acceptable?

Hi All,

I would like to do an opinion poll so to speak. I have 6mth old identical twin girls and they were given beautiful earings for their Christening. I don't know what is an acceptable age to get their ears pierced. I would really appreciate everyone's imput and accept everyone's personal opinion. I don't want this to turn into people attacking others I'd just like to hear your points.
