What do you think - a growth spurt?

    Hi Everyone,

Just after some thoughts....... My DS has stopped sleeping through the night At 15weeks he started sleeping from 10pm-6am (needless to say I was thrilled). He did this for about 3 weeks and now it seems to have stopped.

He started waking at 4.30am and now the last 2 nights he's woken at 3.30am. Each time I've tried to settle him but he won't settle without a feed. He's not falling asleep on the boob (so I don't think its a comfort thing) in fact he takes a full feed and seems to be quite ravenous when he's on.

He doesn't sleep well during the day and won't self settle after his 40mins sleep cycle. I was worried maybe he was not able to self settle during the night anymore but I've been putting him back in bed wide awake (ready for play infact - kicking, smiling and squealing ) and settled himself to sleep without a peep no problems.

So my question is, do you think this is a growth spurt and he'll go back to sleeping through? Or is it all over.... He's fully BF and has 7 feeds per day. I feed him about 3hrly during the day and 2 hrly in the evening. Do I need to try to squeeze in another feed somewhere?

    TIA

4 months is the age of a big growth spurts for babies, so I'd say that's what it is. I don't think yo could fit in another feed considering you're feeding roughly every 3 hourly anyway. Unless he's hungry of course. There's not really a lot you can do except ride it out. We're going through the same thing with Emily. Just be assured that growth spurts don't last forever.

My DS did this around the same age too, he'd been sleeping through since he was 10 weeks old and then around 4.5 months he started waking during the night and hasn't slept through since! (now 9 months old!)
He does however settle pretty quickly with a quick bf these days but for a while there he was taking a full feed.
    It will get better

We got told at mothers group today to expect a growth spurt at around 4 months and for our bubs to stop sleeping through the night when it happened.

Thanks everyone. I hope this growth spurt doesn't last too long! DS does settle quickly after his BF so I'm sure I'll be able to ride it out ok. I'm just so tired all the time from the BF I was really enjoying having an uninterrupted night's sleep.

adkins_81 - I hope my DS doesn't do what your DS has done! I hope you get a full night's sleep soon.
