My kids like stacking cups. They are great for chewing, building towers, and can be taken in the bath.
They have also chosen their favourite toys that they have become "attached" to. Natalie's is a puppet ****atoo and Phoebe loves a squeaking giraffe that she was given when she was born.
Don't forget, the whole house is filled with stuff you can use to occupy a little person! Mirrors are wonderful! Plastic containers and lids are also a hit in our house.
Books are brilliant for kids of any age.
Natalie has been playing with a cheap set of russian dolls lately (she is older though) - she enjoys naming them and role-playing with them. (Mainly they are called Daddy, Mummy, Natalie, Phoebe and 'the other one'.)
DS loved his playmat & bouncer when he was your bubs age. He also enjoyed looking into mirrors & us "reading" board books to him.
Some of his favs have included stacking cups, a blanket with different textures all over it, Fisher Price Stack Around Silly Town, those links either on their own or with things attached to them, balls particularly soft ones he can grip & shake, anything that makes a noise when he whacks it.
Now that he's nearly 8 months old he really likes things he can chase after. He has a Lamaze thing on wheels that when he knocks it it rolls away from him. It's got a mirror on it's side that he loves too. He loves the Roll Arounds balls that make noise too.
I remember before DD's first Christmas so she was about 6 months old she had like hardly any toys at all. A few second hand 'baby' toys and the rest of the stuff she loved was the wardrobe mirror, tupperware, plastic bottles filled with sand/rice/glitter. I went to a GFs house and her little guy had so many toys. Rooms and rooms they took up. I felt so bad for DD that for Christmas we bought heaps (it didn't look so bad being Christmas).....she still went back to the originals though.....
