Unhappy What are we doing wrong?

After a lot of thought and some advice from friends and health nurses we have started cutting back on Mackenzie's breast feeds so that I can eventually wean her (sometime in NEAR future!!)

This week we have done ok - I only feed her when she REALLY wants it and we try:
    - distraction (toys,walks, car)
    - offering her milk, water and solids before I feed her
    - if she has fed recently I give her small brestfeed then pull her off(nicely!!)

We have had some success and gone up to 7 hours without a feed but the past 3 nights have gotten worse! Each night she is waking more regularly and last night was EVERY 3 hours. The first time at around 10pm DH was able to settle her in about 5 mins so not too bad but the other times she is too hysterical (and I hate hearing her like that) or we've been too tired so I feed her. She is getting her first moalrs so that's in the back of our minds as well.

So basically it feels like by cutting out some feeds during the day she is compensating at night. It's a vicous cirlce cause the more I feed her the less solids she tries and the less I feed her the more solids she tries but then still prob isn't getting enough. She has eaten more solids this week - prob 5-6 teaspoons of food as opposed to 2-3 teaspoons in the past.

Any advice or other ideas would be great. I really want to do this in the nicest way possible but also not give in so easily either.

Aw, Jordie, I'm sorry mate! I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this sort of stuff as DD weaned early.
Only thing I wanted to ask is are you spoon-feeding or does she finger feed? If you haven't tried offering her finger foods, then I'd suggest offering them all the time for her to try. It can be easier this way than a sit-down meal.
Anyway, I hope people with more ideas will jump on here for you soon, and good luck.

She basically has all finger foods except for some yoghurt which she feeds herself. Very rarely does she wants us to spoon food into her mouth!

    Hi Jordie
I too am having the same problem, we can go all day without a bf and just feed morning and before bed, but them DS wakes up 3-4 times a night and won't settle without a feed!
I'm thinking maybe it's just a little early for him and I don't want to push him into weaning if it's not what he wants...
I hope you can work it out soon as well, hang in there!
