Hi, Just wondering for those of you who used a bassinette initially, when did you move your bubs from bassinette to the big cot? Stephen is 7 weeks old and is in his bassinette at the moment. He sleeps in a grobag so he's not wrapped tightly and therefore when he's all stretched out he seems to take up a lot of the bassinette. He was in our room until he was 6 weeks and since then had been in the bassinette in his nursery, which is only about 3m from our room. We basically moved him to his room because we thought he would grow out of the bassinette soon and thought doing one transition at a time would be less disruptive for him. ie first in his own room in the bed he's used to and then into the big cot when he gets too big. So I was wondering at what age most people changed from bassinette to cot?
I probably put it off for too long, but I moved Annika when she was around 3 1/2 months. She started having day sleeps in her portacot in our room, and then gradually went to night sleeps in there as well. We put her in the big cot in her room when she had just turned 6 months - she seems to get a better sleep without other noises. Good luck with the transition!!!
Bella was 8 weeks approximately when we put her in the cot. She started her off having day sleeps in the cot and then eventually we moved her out of the bassinette all together. It was sooo nice having our room back! She sleeps a lot better in her own room too - none of DH's snoring to wake her!
We moved Ash into the cot at about 3 months, by that stage she was getting too big for bassinet.
Think first couple nights were a bit funny for her cause she wasn't used to all that space.
DD#1 was 5 weeks (her grunting, groaning, farting, burping....kept DH up)
DD#2 was 12 weeks.....i cried when i moved both of them into their 'big' room.....further away from mummy and all.....
I used a cradle and it was fairly roomy, plus I had a very little baby who loved being wrapped. So DD didn't get into her cot until she was about 8 months! Pretty much at the same stage she didn't stay wrapped anymore and was starting to pull herself up (I didn't want her falling out...). She made the transition no worries (it was in the same room).
We put Riley in his cot when he was about 4 months old...he outgrew his basinette then and we tried the port-a-cot in our bedroom but it made too much noise. He started sleeping a bit better once we put him in his cot too although it worrried me a bit because it's at the opposite end of the house to our room (I did get over that eventually though).
Jessiaca and Jack were about five months we first started putting the basinette in the cot for about a week the strait into the cot they both sleept realy well and it was nice to have our room free of two basinetts.
Good luck with the move.
We moved Natalie into the cot as soon as we got her room set up... Which wasn't until she was three months old (And she wasn't rooming in with us. We weren't very organised! She shared her room with our gym equipment until that point, LOL. Didn't seem to bother her, though I guess it was pretty disrespectful of us.) So. 3 months here, though she could quite happily have slept in her cradle for at least a couple more months.
We didn't have a bassinet DS slept in our bed for 2 weeks (it was the only way we could get any sleep) then slept in cot in our room til6 weks then went to his own room in cot at 6 weeks. i am planning on getting a bassinet or cradle for the next bub though.
I like the idea of moving the bassinet/cradle into the nursery, then into the cot. I'm going to get DH to put it in tonight (we have a solid cradle I have NO hope of lifting lol)!!
Oh Blake is 8.5 weeks old. Hopefully after a few days he'll be in the big cot
Since moving the bassinette to the nursery we've had 7 of the last 9 nights with him sleeping from 10ish to 5am. I think he was just ready to drop that middle of the night feed anyway cause he'd done it 2 or 3 times before that. The first few times he was in the nursery I slept terribly even though he slept well. I was just so used to hearing all his noises when he slept but now we're both sleeping well. I think he'll go into the cot in the next week or 2. He was just lying in his big cot this morning after I changed his nappy and he seemed to love it, especially the mobile. He was smiling and cooing away! Thanks for the replies.
We moved Harrison out of his Bassinette into his cot at 4 months. He could have been out a little earlier, but I personally think he liked his comfy, cosy basinette as opposed to his HUGE big cot... he has started to like the cot more now, because he has realised he can just turn his head to see his Mummy and Daddy!!!
Is it OK to let bubs sleep in a portacot for a couple of months, or is it meant for temporary use only? The sids recommendation is to have baby in their parents room until at least six months. He is going to outgrow his bassinette in a month and that would make him 3 months.
Ive known a few ppl who have kept their bubbies in porta cots for months with no problems. If i didn't already have a cot i probably would do the same thing.
I have a fairly big basket that Bodhi sleeps in. He still has a fair bit of space. After reading when everyone moved their babies into cots tho, i'm thinking i move him into his sooner rather than later.
He keeps me up most of the night grunting & carrying on. Sometimes i think i wake him up coz i think he's awake (does that make sense lol?) to feed him. Maybe he would actually sleep through the night if he was in his cot.....hmmm gives me something to think about anyway
Thanks ladies. I know what you mean Amy I have often turned to look at him in his bassinette and he then woke up straight away. I think that he can sense the milk and wakes up for meal time! I definitely worry with his noises and grunts. I don't know how I'll manage when he goes in his room in his cot!
