When does sleep generally become the 'uncool' thing???
My DD is currently almost 8 months old (corrected 6.5months) and has decided that she is too cool for sleep.
I don't know whether it is teething, upcoming milestone, wonder week, or ???
But I also don't know at what age sleeping patterns change but I think it unrealistic that at this age she only has one sleep per day - or two short naps. Yesterday she slept for an hour ALL DAY. She still slept well overnight (9.30pm until around 3am when she woke for a quick feed and we both fell asleep until 8.35am) and then today she has so far had 40min nap and is cranky and overtired.
But nothing will get DD to sleep, she usually feeds to sleep but today she is feeding for food and nothing else. Once she is full she pulls off and gets her second wind and plays.
I have tried darkened quite room, HAB, laying on the bed with her, going for a walk in the pram, a bath, patting, rocking etc etc I have utilised all my 'tools'. I could take her for a drive but I would just be driving for drivings sake and want to leave that as my last last option. I will not let her CIO
So I guess what I am after is some reasurrance that this too shall pass (even though my brain is telling me it will my ears are telling me she will never sleep again ) and some info on sleep at this age
and of course as soon (well nearly as soon) as I finish typing the post all one handed the darling Miss C fell asleep! Lets see how long this one lasts - please let it be a decent sleep
DD has been terrible with day sleeps for the last month or so. The last week she has had only one day sleep more often than not, and I too feel she is way to young to only be having one sleep a day (she has been in bed by 6/6.30 though as by then she has been awake for 5-6 hours!) but nothing I do will get her to go to sleep.
If she hasn't gone to sleep in an hour I usually get her up, it's not worth me stressing over her not going to sleep and her just having a good old time rolling around in her cot. So I don't have any real advice for you as I'm going through the same thing, just persevere and hopefully she will realise that she does need to sleep!
ss_storm - it is so difficult, kudos to you for doing this for a month or so. I am finding it quite difficult after only a week or so!
Sloane - she was having a nap after around 2-3 hours awake sometimes she would be awake for 3-4 hours but when it got to 4 hours awake she would sort of crash into sleep. DD is 34 weeks this coming Sunday so maybe it is the beginnings of a wonder week and she has just started to get up onto all 4's from her tummy and getting onto all 4's from a sitting position - so maybe that is it
Thanks ladies - it is good to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that I am not the only one going through this!
Sleep became a huge issue in our house at 7months or so, and day sleeps took the longest to sort out - I ended up taking DD for a walk twice a day and she would sleep in the pram. To begin with, it would take her up to half an hour or so to get to sleep, but that was great as I lost the last lot of baby weight . within a couple of weeks, it would only take 5mins or so. She had all her day sleeps in the pram till she was about 18months.
