I say zed because my Dad is English so I was taught British English. DH learn English from Americans so he says zee.

Americans say Zee, Australians say Zed.

Teach Zed so that DD doesnt get confused when she learns the alphabet names and sounds at school.

I say ZED because I am speaking English and Im not American

It is a pet hate of mine when Australians say zee...really gets my goat!!
I pull strangers up for it

Saying ZEE is like saying HAYTCH instead of AYTCH

I only say zee when singing it. Otherwise it's zed when spelling things out etc.

We need an aussie ending to the song.. w, x, y & zed.. now I know my abc's now it's time to go to bed. LOL.

    I do like that it all rhymes in the song tho.. a b c d e f GEE h i j k l m n o PEE q r s t u VEE w x y ZEE. I dunno.. just works hehe.

I'm sure if our children can cope with the other ridiculous broken rules in the english language they can cope with the letter Z being said 2 ways. When they sound out letters for the alphabet there's more than one sound for a lot of the letters.

I can remember a primary school teacher having a bee in her bonet about this. If we ever said 'zeee' she would say that we arn't american and we say 'Zed'.

But it doesn't rhyme!! haha. Maybe change the P to Ped and we would be all good!

    Zed, zed, zed!

FWIW, although I say "Zed" when reading Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat comes Back, the CD we have is read by an Englishman and has the "Zee" pronunciation. The American film Men In Black has Agent Zed, so clearly the Yanks are aware of the correct alphabet somewhere along the line. Horses for courses, I suppose. But I still like Zed!

Aahh, Lime Slice, someone else as pedantic as me! My pet hate is putting K on the end of something/anything....Aaaargh.

Definitely Zed! We are Australian and Australians say Zed, whether singing or not.

'zed' is the prononciation of the Australian letter 'z'.
    'zee' is the American pronounciation.
When singing the song it is true that 'zee' rhymes, this is because it is an American song.

It's zed because we aren't American! Teach the kids the Aussie way - there's enough American stuff in our language already.

    I love that suggestion.
We always sang xy Zed, now I know my abc's next time won't you sing with me

the c's and the me rhyme anyway and the Zee doesn't matter so much.
