When would you worry about a baby not crawling/mobilising?

My 9 1/2 month old looks WAAAY off crawling to me. She rolls a little bit (not very far though) as she seems quite happy staying put and is a placid, content baby. When do you think it would be appropriate to seek further advice about a baby who is not moving very far from the mat they are placed upon?!! She can rotate on her tummy using her hands, but does not seem to know what her legs are used for (only weight bears a tiny bit when given the opportunity to do so). Any thoughts/advice?

DS is 12 months next week and still not crawling!! he commando crawls a bit or rolls everywhere. He was not rolling much until 8 months then he picked up on rolling!! the commando has only been last 2 weeks really.

Try and not worry, I have sat at mothers group thinking all the others are crawling everywhere and mine is sitting beside me most of the time.

Some do things at different times, its hard not to compare but try not too, , my theory is that they all walk and talk etc by time school starts!!

My kids things at different ages my first 3 were all slow at crawling and walking (3rd daughter only started crawling at about 10 months which was with both hands one knee and one foot then walked just before she was 1) then number 4 crawled at 5 months and walking by 8 months. I wouldn't worry too much unless you feel there is a problem. You could go see the ECN and have a chat with them. And enjoy your little one not moving around too much cos she will be into everything in no time.

My sam (Dd#3) crawled at 13 mths...walked at 16.5 months. She too didnt look like even nearly crawling at the 10mth mark...i notice too you have other children. I found Sam just had to sit on her mat or wherever and her sisters would bring her what she wanted. She just had to grunt or groan and the girls ran to her...why would she need to move LOL !!!!

At her 1st birthday, whilst all her other little 1 yr old friends were RUNNING, my little Sam just sat on her beehind playing with her toys...she would lean forward, but never did she look like she was going to take off....

If your really concerned, by all means talk to your GP....i gave myself till the 18mth mark, if she wasnt walking by then, i was going to see someone...but she suprised us all.

BTW - some babies dont even crawl....they go straight to walking. My girlfriends boy did this at 12 months.....

There is a little boy in our mothers group who is very similar- just really quite happy to hang out on his back or tummy. He started crawling much later than any of the other kids- I would say not until 10.5-11 months. But when it did happen, it happened quite quickly. He's now almost 12 months and will, but he's still really quite happy to sit or lie or roll a bit. All the other kids are like bumper cars with each other and he's just happy chilling. He is perfectly normal as far as development, its just the personality. I'm sure your DD is the same, I wouldn't worry. They have to have some motivation to do all that hard crawling work and if your DD is happy to be where she is, why would she bother trying to move? She will get there in her own time. I wouldn't worry until 12 months, but I've no medical basis for that- just my instinct! I'm sure your MCHN has some guidelines?

I think Miss M was a week off 10 months or just on 10 months when she started crawling. She just wasn't interested, like your DD, was content just to lie there or roll around. Now she's pretty speedy (she's 11 months today)

My nefew is 9.5 months and still not crawling but DD has been crawling since 6 months (proper crawling 7 months), so i guess every baby is different.

When in doubt, get it checked out.

    Hi
My boy didn't crawl at all. He really didn't move a great deal until he turned 1 year when he started scooting along on his backside. He looked rather funny as he kinda moved like a crab lol but he was up running around by 15 or 16 months. I was a bit concerned too but he got there in the end.

Enjoy your nice placid bubba. I'm sure she's fine and she'll move around in her own time

I think as long as she is moving around somewhat, and has good head and neck control (ie she is not 'floppy'), then you have nothing to worry about. TBH I can't remember when my babies started crawlingm, but it was around the 10 month mark I think - and my 2 year old DD did the commando crawling thing for a while before she actually got up on hands and knees.

DD1 did not move for ages!! She crawled at 13months and walked 2 weeks later....it looks like DD2 will be similiar as she seems very happy to be sitting and watching the world. It was hard as all the other bubs were moving months beforehand. I did get a quick check by the GP at ~11months just in case. She has not stopped running since then though.

I wouldn't worry about it. If a baby wasn't moving at all, I'd start to worry at about 14 months. And by not at all, I mean no rolling, no rotating, no pulling self up.
I'd also worry if there was a sudden and sustained stop to progress in development - like a baby who was rotating at 9 months but had remained static at 12 or 13 months.
