We buy from our local markets. There is a cool older guy here who makes some awesome toys out of wood.
Also, Eco toys have some great stuff. Google them

If you suss out your preferred wooden toy brands you can search on ebay by the brand names. I picked up lots of lovely coloured wooden blocks for DD this way, much cheaper than the shop price. The blocks get a good work-out and even the big kids play with them heaps.

I was going to say eco toys too. They make their stuff out of rubber wood and I brought some stuff for my niece from there and my sister said it is really good quality. Another one I buy from is thinkingtoys and mywoodentoys - this one had absolutely divine toys. I just wish I had more money to buy them LOL

My dad makes awesome wooden toys!! He makes these ducks that are on a stick and they "walk". Will try to post some pictures. He also makes dominoes that are about 15cm long, my class love them and DS makes towers with his!
Dad belongs to a local "men's shed" and they make a lot of wooden toys to sell or donate to sick kids, maybe look up and see if there is a Men's shed near you and see what they have.

Gepettos has a habit of stocking some cheaper Made in China wooden toys, too - I don't trust the paints on them
    I'd go Eco Toys
