why is wrapping so bad?

ive been trying to wean DD off been wrapped for day sleeps, (i continue for at night), because i figured she needs to get used to it and ive been 'told' to as it will create issues later. DD has only been having 40 min day sleeps for the past few days, so i wrapped her for her lastest sleep and she asleep still after 60 mins. (ive been leaving just one arm out and one wrapped)
so is it so bad that babies are wrapped say past 6 months?

I don't think so! I wrapped Em til she was 6 months and still had her in her bassinette even though lots of ppl thought she shouldn't be! You got to do what works!!! Sleep is precious.

We still wrap Sam. We will continue to wrap Sam until he indicates that he no longer likes it. There's something about his sleepy smiles when we start to wrap him when he wants to go to bed... he loves it still and just will not sleep without it. But he's a funny one. At six and a half months old he still doesn't even try to fight his way out of his wrap and stays where we put him in bed.

If there's something "wrong" with wrapping, I'd like to know, but I really can't see it... it gives him security and keeps him comfortable.

I don't see the issue. DD is still wrapped or she wakes herself up. She's still in her bassinette too lol.

Both of mine were wrapped till about 9 months and at that stage were getting out of the wrap anyway because they were very mobile so 'weaning' them really wasn't an issue.

If she's sleeping better wrapped, I'd keep wrapping her. I know of babies who've been wrapped till 12 months.

I thought you just wrapped until they didn't want to be wrapped anymore? Or couldn't be wrapped? I didn't even know there was a time limit!!!

I only wrap my kids for the first few weeks though cos they like sleeping on their belly. Can't imagine it would be very SID safe to be wrapped and placed on your tum... lol

pfft to those who say otherwise. Darcy was wrapped until 9 months and Nate looks like he will be similar at this stage...especially startly bubbas like mine...nothing worse than a smack in the head (with your own hand) to wake you up....

I still occasionally wrap DS at 1yo. It helps him unwind. But he stopped wrapping when he started rolling, as it frustrated him. I say wrap away.

i did full wrapping until DD was rolling all over the place, then we moved to looser wrapping that came just under the armpits for quite a while (basically until she mastered the houdini art). then we moved to sleeping bags where she has stayed...

the transition was not very painful. the anticipation of doing it was FAR worse ITMS.

Harrison likes to be wrapped but he is getting to big and the blankets just arnt wrapping him anymore so im trying to break the habit but thats the only reason, id love to keep wrapping especially in this weather.

Go buy some lengths of cheesecloth or stretch cotton or flannalette... what ever takes your fancy and then you can have wraps as big as you need.

If your sewing skills don't stretch to hemming fabric - just use a cot flat sheet. That's what we do when all the wraps are in the wash (he's still a pukey bub).

I think it's only an issue if they are rollers & end up on their tummies, unable to turn back over cos they can't move their arms properly when wrapped.

I still wrap georgia and I dont see that changing anytime soon, she actually got too hard for me to wrap her so a couple of weeks ago I brought her a big baby woombie and we both love it. I will most likely use a woombie from birth with the next bub.

DS was wrapped until 7 months and DD til 15 mths.

Nothing wrong with wrapping when it works!
