Daddy has a penis and mummy had a vagina (gina) but for some reason DD wont call hers a gina and insists its a moomoo! and little boys have doodles....thats really something she has decided on. she laughs if i call hers a gina or mine a moomoo.

we were in the shops the other day and we saw a lady with a baby girl...DD asked the lady if her baby had a moomoo or a doodle! but she has no problem in asking friends that come over for a swim if they have a vagina or a penis...luckily the only people that come over are not easily offended!

Well, I use penis and vagina too, but I was talking with my dad the other day, and he was laughing with my grandma about what she used to call his. Shes a real "proper" lady iykwim? She called it a 'wetting pole' .. we laughed for ages .. haha .. I love my grandma

oh, and i was changing my daughters nappy the other day ad he pointed to her vagina and called it a bum .. hehe

We just had a discussion about this in our buddies group. I am a bit hesitant to use Vagina because it sounds so grown up for little kids, but that is my hang up not theirs and if i were to use it they wouldn't think anything of it. We use doodle for penis. So I am going for it, it will be Vagina around here.

I wouldn't entirely agree about using the correct names preventing abuse. I certainly knew what things were called and it made no difference.

My DD (just over 2.5) decided by herself that "daddy has a boy, mummy has a girl and boobies, and DD has a girl"

We use the correct terms for them, and at the moment DS is obsessed. He gave his creche class an anotomy lesson using a doll and also tells everyone "My mum's babies are going to come out of her VA-GINA'. God love him

We used Diddle for vagina and doodle for penis when I was really little. We use penis and vagina here siomply because that is what they are. They are not rude words and I see no reason not to use them.

For what it is worth, my parents were never embarrassed about discussing sex etc, I was not ashamed of my genitals, and I was definitely not still using the terms diddle and doodle past the age of about 5, but it didn't make it any easier to speak out. And from my experience with the people involved with child services, I could have called my bits whatever I liked in my statement and it still would have counted.

My mother decided to use the "proper" words when we were kids, but she had never heard anyone say vagina aloud, so she mispronounced it. Boy, was I laughed at when I mispronounced it as va-geen-a during science class. (Our history teacher's first name was Regina, which somehow made it all seem so much worse.) Now I hesitate to say the word because I have to think about how to pronounce it.

We're calling it a wu-wu for now. I have no idea how that word popped out but I feel far less embarrassed talking about a wu-wu in public. The nickname in Vietnamese is "little bird" and that's what DP calls it when he's speaking Vietnamese to DD. I think we'll just use nicknames for now but use the proper words when she's a bit older.

DD1 is call her vagina a "moomoo" no idea where she picked it up but we just let her use it, it wasnt until she was assaulted at school by an older boy and had to be interviewed by the police and might still have to go to court we realised the seriousness of knowing the proper terms so from now on we will only use penis and vagina

We use penis and vagina here too. I don't see any reason not to use the correct names. There is nothing rude about them at all.

It's penis and vagina in this house.
Or private parts to describe the whole area.

    Sorry but for safety reasons...

    It's Vagina and Penis.

They are body parts, nothing to be ashamed of. Teaching children made up names only promotes their own (and yours) embarressment over their body parts. There is also evidence to suggest using baby terms gives potential sexual predators power over their victim. There have been many threads regarding this topic posted here... I'm sure if you searched you'd find some.

Fanny, vagina, penis, and (thanks DH) d!ck lol

Most often though, Charlotte calls it her fanny, I think it is easier for her to say, but she knows both words and will use both.

We use doodle and hubs taught my son bajingo for vagina ( all scrubs fans will know that one).
We are NOT embarrassed of our genitals, I don't remember ever feeling like it was a taboo subject just because we didn't use the correct terminology, I never found a problem with not speaking the correct terms when growing up ( I knew what was what and where everything went and what it all did). You use what you and your family are comfortable with.

I couldn't agree more. It was always fanny and doodle in our house when I was a child but we definitely knew the correct names and used them when required. My parents weren't embarrassed, nor were us kids, its just that more relaxed names suited our family, IYKWIM

We'll be teaching our children the correct names but will use more light-hearted names around home such a willy and ginny (or vjay-jay).

It's a personal thing, each to their own.
