    Won't stop screaming

Blake has been screaming pretty much all day. I've tried everything I can think of to settle him, but nothing is working. I got him to sleep this morning after 2 hours of screaming, but then had a paed appointment 30 mins later so had to get him up. Told the paed, he said there is nothing wrong with him as he is putting on weight.

His reflux is playing up, he has vomitted ALOT after every feed today but the paed says there is nothing wrong with him "because he is big and gaining weight".

So no more sleep since 30 mins from 10:00-10:30. I got him to sleep in the nude in my arms for 3 MINUTES just now. That's it. He is now in his cot screaming. I don't know what to do. I tried panadol but he chucked it back up, he doesn't have a temp, I've tried pacing, patting, rocking, trying to feed to sleep, wrapped, unwrapped, air con on, air con off (it's about 28 degrees here), teething gel and rings, water, water and brown sugar (as he hadn't done a poo today, but he did the poo so he isn't consitpated).

What else can I do!? I'm at my wits end, DH is at work until at least 1am.

Oh Ash I'm so sorry you are going through this at the moment, especially since you are home alone. I'm racking my brain trying to think of something for you to try. Have you tried a bath? Nappy free time? Olivia went through a day like this and I just had to wrap her, put her in her cot and let her chuck a fit for a little bit. It nearly broke my heart but she did settle. What about putting him in the car and going for a drive around the block to try and settle him? Does he like his pram? How about putting in that and walking around the house?
Have you tried putting his panadol in some water in a bottle to try and get him to take it that way for you?'
Sorry that's not much help but I'm sending you heaps of hugs. Hang in there Ash you are doing a great job.

I've tried all of those things except get in the car, as I can't drive. Thank you so much for trying to help though, I appreciate it. He is still screaming. I tried water again, a bottle, pacing, naked time, wrapping him, and he is in there probably broken free from his wrap, absolutely screaming. He has almost lost his voice from the intensity.

try a deep bath that may relax him, or perhaps a walk in the pram?

    Oh Ashlee

I'm sorry that you are having such a struggle
Im sure you have tried just about everything

perhaps just take a breath and first calm and relax yourself as much as you can...and hold him, love him, talk to him...keep calm and relaxed

he may have wind...try this, and you can do it whil he is screaming...

tell him that you are going to try to help him be comfortable
lay him on a blanket on the floor
    take his nappy off
and with a little oil (almond oil if you have it...but olive oil ok...nothing synthetic)
spread the oil on his belly
then with flat hands scoop his belly, from top to bottom, using enough pressure that his abdoment depresses slightly (take care no too touch his chest)
    repeat 6 times
then supporting his calves bring his knees into his tummy, hold for 6 and gently bring his legs back down
    repeat this sequence 3 times

I don't have any almond or olive oil - only canola and baby oil, or johnsons baby lotion. Are any of these suitable?

Because he is screaming alot, he is gulping down air and is burping when I pat him on the back...but it's a cycle, I don't know how to stop it?

the canola is ok to use (the others are synthetic based)

the massage will help him to pass the wind

Ashlee!! Oh no I'm so sorry you are going through this. Have you taken him for a walk? In the pram? Sorry just suggestions because you've tried the massage as I would have already....

With Matilda she just kept screaming, but Jovie stops after 5 minutes when we go for a walk.

Yep I never go walking and I walked for about 15 mins and NOTHING. All I got were death stares from the neighbours and I almost punched a 10 year old child in the face for telling me to "Shut my baby up"

Oh Ashlee, sending you big . First up, you are doing a fantastic job - and ignore the 10 year old - Karma is sweet

My DD went through a similar thing (but she was only 10 days old). All I could do was pace the house with her in my arms or sit on the fit ball and bounce... and even then she often kept screaming. Like you, nothing seemed to work and she just kept screaming. As she screamed she gulped the air in which made her more uncomfortable. Eventually she wore herself out and it would stop as quickly as it started (but it took at least 7 hourse to get to that point!). A trip in the car worked for us (but that isn't much help since you can't drive).
After 3 days of enduring DD's screaming episodes, I spoke to the MCHN and she suggested perhaps DD was over tired and I was missing her tired signs. She wrapped DD up, popped her in her bed, stroked her forehead and low and behold - she was asleep in minutes! I don't know if you're still wrapping your DS, but perhaps you could try wrapping him in something light (since it is hot).
Does your DS like music? With DD, I can distract her with any number of her mobiles or her nursery rhyme CD. Or perhaps Mummy singing?

Is there anyone who can give you a break? I know it is very taxing with a baby who is screaming all day. Make sure you give yourself some "down" time. Even if it is putting DS in a safe place (such as his cot), making yourseld a cuppa, and then go and sit somewhere you can't hear him. He will be fine in his cot whilst you have your cuppa and the little break will help you.

Hang in there - you're doing great.

Hi my baby was like this a couple of weeks back and I took her to the Dr and she had an ear infection. Do you think this could be the problem? Is he pulling his ear. Madeline only did this after a few days of what you are describing. I know what you are going through it is so hard. Hope he feels better soon.

I hope that he has settled down for you by now, and that you have had a chance to relax, yourself. Fingers crossed for you for tomorrow...

How are you today Ash? And what is that little man of yours up to? How'd the rest of your terrible day go yesterday? Did you get him settled?

Sending you heaps and heaps of hugs.
