Would you use this?

So my Mum went a bit crazy in the Big W baby sale lol. She's bought DD some beautiful things, but unfortunately they're all winter size 0, and DD will fit them in summer. She also bought a Hello Kitty sleeping bag (grobag style) in size 00 that will fit now.

She was so excited about this one, and wanted her to wear it last night while we were staying there. The problem I have is that there's no tog rating - although there may be on the tags Mum took off - and it's filled with polyester wadding. So that means there's a big red tag stating that it's a high fire danger (why do they even make babies clothes that are a high fire danger?). I've tried looking it up online for extra info but can't find anything.

So I don't feel comfortable with DD using it. It's bad enough she'll likely never wear any of the clothes Mum bought her, but she was so excited about this one and I feel bad asking her to return it. What would you do?

Well I spose the winter stuff MIGHT come in handy over summer depending on how much of a Summer we actually get, besides evenings can get cool.

Hang on to them hun, worst case scenario sell them after Summer has passed.

ETA - sorry you must have added more as I posted - I wouldn't use the grow bag but then the ones I have seen all have the high fire danger tags anyway

That's pretty much DH's response! "Well you're not gonna set it on fire are ya?"

I guess I'm still hoping Mum can find a tog rating cos it feels really thick and heavy and I'd worry about her overheating.

If you think its really heavy, just put her in a light suit underneath (or even just singlet and nappy) and monitor her temp to see if you think its still too hot or not warm enough. If she's not warm enough, add a blanket. Too warm - you know not to use it and dress her in something else

Personally I don't put DS in synthetics, so can understand your reluctance to use it. But maybe you can put her in it for the night or two you're at your mums and then not use it when you get home.

With the high fire danger, that's actually cause it's not a close-fitted clothing item. Anything loose is classified high fire danger. Even the cottons etc. Nightgowns are high fire danger, pajamas aren't.

Thanks MNB Might give that a go, start light and see how she goes. I had another question about grobags, do their arms get cold? I probably wouldn't want to have her in just a nappy and singlet cos then her bare arms will be out.

Thanks for that! I had no idea, I thought it was the material.

Still waiting for Mum to get back home to see if she can find a tog rating and if so then all good, if not I might try her in it for one or two day naps first.

Nah, it's the cut that matters. I don't really like to use synthetics at bed time though because they don't breathe, so overheating is more of an issue than with natural fibres.

Thanks Audax, I thought that's what the overheating issue was. Does tog take that into account though? Like this would have a higher tog because it's going to be warmer because it doesn't breathe as well?

Hun I would be guessing the tog is at least 2. I have some bonds sugglesuit bags (no tog rating on them) and the winter one that I have been using up until about 2 weeks ago was really thick with the polyester filling. I used to bake DS is it! I was using lots of clothes underneath . So if you're going to use the bag just dress DD lightly (ie long sleeve romper without the legs and when it gets warmer try a short sleeve romper without the legs). I've recently bought a couple of the original grobags as they have a TOG rating and I know exactly what DS should be wearing under it. GL hun!

Their arms can get cold - but it's ok. They need to have something 'out' to help them regulate their temp. Even if their hands seem really cold, they can still be comfy sleeping away and have warm bodies.
I personally love grobags, although i use a cheaper one but it's still cotton.

Ds2 has been in a sleeping bag since 5 weeks but it's cotton filled not polyester.

High fire danger is as the others have said. Plus, it's bedding not clothing.
