DD1 never had one, well except for my boobies and had to put a stop to that as I couldn't always be there! Anyways, DD2 has become very attatched to her blanket, she always has loved it but since she was unwell last week I've seen how much she loves it, as soon as you give it to her she gets so excited and rolls over, is all sleepy and settled.
If she is cranky in the evenings get it out for her and she sits there happily.
My mum knitted it so I've told her to make a couple more for me to keep in the car and nappy bag lol cause I'll be worried if I lose it or if we forget to take it somewhere.
At age 2 dd1 is obssessed with her babies! She has twin dolls and she always has to know where at least one of them is, one sleeps with her the other goes to the shops and daycare etc. She screams the house down if they are missing. I had to go back to daycare on Friday to pick one up as with Melbourne cup day it was a week before she went back.
Its only since I had DD2 before that as long as she had her rainforest soother when she went to bed she was happy.
My lil fella has a "doggie". Once I realised he was attached to it, I bought 7 of them! I have lost a couple, but have about 3 stashed away. Luckily they are pretty easy to get hold of on the internet, but still, I would hate to run out. Surprisingly it is very easy for us. We have a few spares lying around that are interchangeable. he is not that keen when they are new, they need a bit of "roughing up" before he gets used to them, but over the last 2 years they have been a lifesaver!
Dummies. Oh Lord. I have to buy a new packet every week when I do the grocery shop because DD1 is always losing them. She's at the point where she must have 3 'muckies' on her at all times - one in her gob, one in one hand and one stuffed in her pocket (or in my pocket if she's not wearing shorts). Oh, and I have to keep spares in my handbag, the glovebox, my bedroom drawers for emergencies (ie she's stashed all hers away and it's bedtime, she won't go to sleep without one)...
DD1 has a sheep(sheepie) and will not go to bed without it. its sooooo freakin disgusting! its grey and smelly, but i cant wash it because it has a music box in it!
DD1 used to suck her thumb so that was her comforter for 2.2yrs, she also has a small pound puppy called puppies that she cuddles in bed each and every night!! she loves puppies!
DD2 also a blankie, she rubs it on her face to go to sleep, i take it when in the car too if shes due for a sleep, hers are flannelette
My ds2 Isaac started using this cot comforter with mickey mouse on it that I bought off ebay when he was under 6 months. He just turned 6 in sept and he still takes it to bed with him every night and has it over him when watching tv. He is very attached to it. We have restrictions on it though. We don't allow it to leave the house unless we are staying somewhere overnight or if he is sick and going to the Drs..
Ds3 Jacob also has one which we think started because Isaac had one. his has teddy bears on it and he sleeps with it everynight. He is not as attached to his as Isaac is but still close enough
DS is very attached to his soothers. If he gets hurt he cries for a soother, and when he's tired he needs one too or he wont' go to sleep. We try to only let him have one at these time as he's too old to be wandering around all day with one.
When he gets tired he will also ask for a blankie (thankfully any blankie will do) and his stuffed bunny with the music box inside.
He tends to attach to a new item every week. One week he'll take a certain toy car everywhere he goes (including the tub and to bed), and the next week it will be a motorcycle, or a little people toy, or a stuffie. The only constant is his love for his soother which he calls his "nuky".
DS is 3.5 years old and is extremely attatched to his dummies and his 'woofa' a toy dog made out of minky, we are on Woofa number 2 now and I had to sew his leg back on last month
Oh, how could I have forgotten 'Barnslig' and 'Krokodil'?? My mum bought this huge red polka-dotted hippopotamus toy from Ikea when DD1 was born (Barnslig), and then just before DD2 arrived, she got a big green striped crocodile for DD2 and a yellow polka-dotted camel for DD1. DD1 has taken possession of the crocodile one as well as the hippo and sleeps with them every night - we have to remember to send it over to her grandparents' when she has a sleepover or she refuses to go down, and God forbid the damn things ever need to be washed, because if they're not dry and ready for bed when DD1 is, she won't go into her cot. She cuddles them in her sleep, and they're big enough to use as pillows, too
DS1 had a blue teddy bear and his thumb.... caused problems when teddy needed a "bath". I remember sneaking him into the washing machine one time after he'd been sick on him lol.
DS2 has a flat terry nappy... YAY cos I can wash anytime and replace with a clean one.... he used to have white ones. It started cos I use them as burp cloths and to help cover bb when feeding.... so cos I wanted to use them for DS3... DS2 now has nice coloured ones.
DS3 doesn't have a comforter as yet... well apart from bb!! He does like playing with the cloth nappies too though so he might go down the same path
Both of my twins have a piece of muslin cloth in their cots with them.
DS doesn't always use his but he sucks his thumb and likes to play with his sleeve at the same time. Since it has been hot and he is in short sleeve shirts he pulls his arm inside his shirt so he can still play the the shirt while he sucks his thumb lol
DD loves her muslin. We call it her Muzzie and she has made her own word for it and she calls it her buddie (obviously her interpitation of Muzzie) she says buddie as we walk her into bed and as soon as she has it she sucks on it. I have a big pile of them so I can wash them all the time as she sucks on them so much.
My DD is unaturally attached to her dummies and blankie. Or nummy and bap as she calls them
DS has a blankie too (well 2 actually!), which he is begining to get rather attached to as well. And a dummy but he's not as attached to it as DD is.
Thay travel anywhere they are going to be sleeping at, so they go to mums and childcare when we do! God forbid I ever forget someones bap or nummy.......eeeeekkk!!!
Pip has his "charlie" who is a galah we bought from the brisbane royal women's auxiliary - when we realised how attached he was to it we bought another. He also will take his "blue bear" or his "kitty cat" - kitty's tail gets very, very wet and soggy from being sucked when Pip's upset.

DD1 had a cabbage patch doll, it had red hair a bit like mine at the time, when I rocked her she would play with my hair so the doll became a substitute. She lost it while we were out one day & we thought there would be hell to pay but it was ok go figure - every other time it had been gone she freaked.
DS1 had his 'ray' - it was a little satin cami of mine I gave him as a baby cause it had my smell on it (I slept in it) and he must have liked the feel cause nothing else ever wrked as a substitute.
DS2 had my boobs...
AR has her muslin wrap, and a little pink elephant my dad gave her. When she got it I looked at it & said 'oh I know where that will end up'... sure enough she has got the hang of it now & the trunk is chewed & slobbered on the other day she went to sleep on the floor with the trunk in her mouth...she had been slurping away & went to sleep, too cute
