DD2's hair is crazy... half curly, half straight but not in a good way, she looks like she has bed head all the time. Even after brushing.... she refuses hair ties after 5-10 minutes and pulls everything out, she wakes up with Russell Brand's hairdo which is hilarious.... but not really looking like a cute toddler/preschooler....
DD1 sounds very similar, i think she wakes up looking more like Albert Einstein though. After EVERY sleep she has dreadlocks in the back. She HATEs me brushing it, and it looks ridicules when i do, frizzy afro kind of thing, so i only do it once a day when it is wet. sometimes every second day. So we run with the wild look. Suits her personality. Old ladies tell me i should brush it , one said to me once "Oh my granddaughter has hair just like that..... don't worry it will get better!

I love her hair, but it is so hard to keep tidy. Maybe she needs a haircut too!
