just wondering if anyone has a bath or shower with their baby, and what age they started?
Was thinking of trying it now and then, as Byron loves his baths but he is so long he kicks the end of his bath and we have to stop his head from bashing into it! I thought a bath with mummy or daddy in the big bath would be fun for him.
From the start! It's a great time to enjoy with your little bubs if you feel comfortable. We put Charlie in the shower very early on so that he got used to it...it was often his only time with Dad before bed as DH was gone before he woke up & home just before bed time. Just keep it nice & warm & not too fast & they should enjoy it - though they are slippery little suckers LOL. As for bath, even better as you can just cuddle with great skin to skin contact and sit back & relax. If you are comfortable with it...go for it!!
Our DD started having showers and baths with us from a really early age. She has always loved being in water so we have tried to foster that as much as possible.
We started with her in showers together (not only that we travelled a fair bit in the first few months, so showers were easier than taking the bath with us), then we upgraded to baths. Whenever i get the chance to have a bath and shes up, she comes in with me. these also started early on too.
Thinking back i think we started these from about 2 months?
Brendan was about 6 months old when he had his first shower with dad, and it was purely because I had been disorganised... hehe. Brendan was bathed during the late afternoon as he went to bed at 6pm.
We probably would have done it earlier, but we were petrified of hurting him or dropping him! Silly now in hindsight!
Jacob has had a few baths with us now and it is soooooooooooooo nice.
1st would ahve been at about 2 weeks
He hasnt liked water to much but is now getting better.
Our first child showered with us at about 3 months perhaps, but our second started about 2 weeks! It's so much easier! Especially if you have someone to help you.
I'll hop in the shower, and dh will undress bub and bring him to me. It's a careful handover, but then I have him upright looking over my shoulder (get my hair out of the way or he pulls it), and then let the water fall on his back. I'll wash him in that position. He likes it quite warm too, so I'm still comfy. I just don't use any soap really on him, don't want to make him slippery!
And then when I'm done, I just hand him back to dh to be dried and dressed! It's so easy, and he really likes it. I just chat to him when the water first hits his back, or put my hand on his back and then move it - initally the water can startle him.
Something else I do - do you have one of those shower attachments you put on your bath nozzle? I put a bathmat/handtowel on the bath floor, get the warm water running, and put bub on the mat in the bath. I put a facewasher on his chest and wet it (to help keep him warm), and wash him that way, just running the water over his body. He tries to hit the water and hold it, it's pretty cute. :P
But there's no danger of him slipping out of my hand that way. I wash him that way when I'm on my own.
Right from the start with all our kids they have showered with Daddy or bathed with me.. I am to nervous to hold them in the shower when they were really small...
Then it was the baby bath or bathing in the big tub by themselves.. or the kitchen sink on occasion
