Just on the gripe water, I rang a pharmacy hotline when ds was 4 weeks old and they told me that gripe water is no longer recommended as it contains ethanol (sp?) which can be harmful. Ethanol is kinda like alcohol i think!
Infants friend is a far better choice and is gentle on bubs too.
Hope this helps
You can get a gripe water that contains no ethanol from the chemist, cant rememebr the name atm, but just check the lables.
I found that infacol and gripe water worked a bit, but if i gave MJ 2 mls of cool boiled water before a feed it was enough to push and air down...

Also i would burp her before a feed and this is going to sound weird, but if you move your bubs around and hear the fluid 'lapping' in their tummy (afer a feed) there is air that needs to come up, if you cant hear it, they should be OK...
I sometimes will hold MJ over my shoulder then bring her down flat and then back up again, it helps to move the liquid and air around and its easier to burp up

Hope this helps
