    Red face Head Control

    Hi everyone

I have been a Belly Belly reader since first TTC at the beginning of last year but this is the first time posting so I hope I am in the right spot!!

DD was born on 24/8/08 so is now 3 months old. When we were at the paediatrician last week he advised that her head control is only at a 2 month level but that it is not abnormal. We are seeing an osteopath for reflux and he is also working on a minor flat spot and tendency to only look to the right. Hopefully this treatment (plus the increased tummy time) will help.

Of course I started worrying straight away so was wondering if there are other families out there who have been told this and what the outcome was. I have been trying to find exercises to help neck strength but have not had much luck so would also appreciate it if anyone has any hints.

    Thanks
    Sybil

DS wouldnt do tummy time until roughly 4 months of age and honestly it hasnt made a difference to his development. Hes starting to shuffle (calling it crawling would be too generous lol) and can now hold his head up for over 20 minutes at a time. I didnt stress too much but if youre really worried I suggest having her lay on your belly so she can see you and know shes safe. Theyre better with that than on the floor HTH

    Hi Sybil,
We had a similar problem with our dd Chloe. She would only look to the right and had really poor head control until about 4 months old. The tummy-time thing helped, but she HATED it, so our physio suggested rolling a towel into a roll and putting it under her chest and armpits so her arms were out in front of her, then giving her toys in front of her to reach for. This really helped. Also, and I think this was the thing that helped the most, was when carrying her we held her upright, facing outward (ie she was facing the way we were facing), and I held her around her waist. She let her head drop for the first couple of trips out, but soon realised she could see a lot more if she lifted her head up. So it gave her a bit of motivation. Don't stress though, we were also told it was quite normal and Chloe is now 22 months and running everywhere like a crazy person!

Well, our little one developed head control ok - around 4/5 months, which is normal - and if your little one is still a month or two away from that then I'd just wait and see how she goes. She certainly isn't overdue for it so don't panic too much yet! Time will tell
