My little boy is 10 weeks old and the child health nurse says I need to work on his neck control with more tummy time (which unsurprisingly he hates). He was 4 weeks early so has been slightly developmentally delayed. But can anyone tell me what their bubs were/are like with head control.
He can raise it off the ground (but not look at your) on his tummy. He also can hold it straight up while being held for decent stretches (though it flops around a bit when he is tired).
And does anyone have any tricks for strengthening the neck - other than tummy time. Tummy on mummy is even a bit too much for his windy tum.
you can roll up a small blanket and place it under his chest to prop him up a little, maybe try tummy time in front of a full length mirror if you have one so he can check himself out!!
Oh - I forgot to add that the reason this is important is that DS has a long head. Essentially the opposite of flat head - the sides of his head are flattened from too much time on either side. Thankfully at least the flatness is symmetrical. So getting out of working on neck control isnt an issue. Anyone else out there had a bub with a "long head"?
My DD2 had a long head the doctors put a fancy name to it at her 6 week check up but i cant remember what it is...was very noticable at first but now her head has rounded out somewhat, she also hated tummy time but now has great head control
