Help me!!!

On the weekend we had removed DS1 cot out of his room so he would sleep in his big boy bed......well that lasted till yesterday cause I couldn't handle the crying and ow much he worked himself up over just going to bed.

We put his cot back up yesterday afternoon and now he is climbing out of that and is still crying that same as he was on the weekend.

Have we scared him altogether?? Will he grow out of it?? How can I confort him more so he isn't so scared of sleeping in his room??

Hmm I'm not sure Amelia as I haven't got to this stage yet, DS is going into a bed in the next few weeks.
How was he before you tried the bed when he was in his cot? Did he like going to sleep?
The only suggestions I have is maybe to get him to help pick a special quilt cover just for him, and maybe try lying down with him at bed time for the first few nights til he gets the hang of it.
Does he have a night light?

Will he let you lie down with him until he goes to sleep? Maybe put the cot next to the big boy bed without the side so he can choose which one to use.

GG - He use to love going to bed there was no fighting against me or screaming and crying like there is now. We let him choose out a cover and sheets and a pillow and everything. Let him help DH take down the cot and he helped me in making his bed. The bed has been in his room for about 5-6 months already. He wont sleep with a night light on....we tried that and he got up and turned it off.

I will try lying there with him but all he does is try and push me out of the bed.

I am at my wits ends about and I am even thinking of just letting him sleep where ever he wants...eg. our bed which is totally against anything I have ever wanted.

Do you read him stories before he goes off to sleep? Maybe try reading them while lying next to him in the big boy bed?

We read him a story while he has his bottle....maybe we should try giving him his bottle in bed and reading to him then as well!?!?!

I did that when I went home for a little while and Max was in a different bed. Just made him realise that it's an OK place to be and relax and this is where he sleeps.

If I were in your shoes I would try and avoid going back to the cot....you've made the step's forward in a bed, maybe just persist for a few more days.

I agree with Julia, once you've done it stick with it! Most kids go through a transition period when they move to a bed but it usually passes quickly.

I think giving him his bottle and a story in bed and maybe hanging around for a while until he relaxes sounds like the best plan.

From what I remember he's always been a good sleeper and he will be again once he adjusts.

We ended up putting his cot back in his room, still cries whenwe put him to bed but nothing like he was with his big boy bed. The cries are getting shorter and shorter every night. We have put a gate up at his door and we leave the door open when he goes to bed. Also bought him a night light that projects onto the roof and he really likes it and the music soothes him alot too.....
