What they're testing isn't whether it's safe but whether it works - vaccines have to be approved before they can be tested on humans. I'm considering having it done for DD but am undecided because of course we think it's safe at the moment, but who knows the long term effects. Not to mention that some people have adverse reactions to vacinations.
Currently, kids get a vaccine for only one strain of meningococcal disease...the study is looking at vaccines that will cover 4 other strands of the disease.
I understand the argument about not wanting to involve someone without their consent, but I also think it's really important that medical research be completed...and for it to be completed, they do need volunteers.
The ethics committees to allow these sort of trials to occur are very strict...
I guess it just comes down to personal preference.
