Hi, my doc put me on Microlut (mini pill) as my periods have returned (once) I have a three month old who is exclusivley BF. I have been taking it for 1 week. She is normally a solid night sleeper and not grizzly in the day, but this week she has been waking twice a night and crying more in the day. I wonder if this could be because of the pill im takeing or just normal baby behaviour?? My doc assured me that it was 100% safe to take while BF and wouldnt pass into my milk, but im not convinced!!
Was hoping someone might have been in the same situation. Also , just this morning she seems to not want my milk, pulling away when i try to feed her. i wonder if the pill could make my milk taste funny for her.
Hmm not sure I have an answer for you. I'm taking the mini pill, have been since DD was born (didn't want to take any chances!) and I don't think it's affected her. I guess you can only keep a diary and try it for a couple of weeks, if she continues to be a bit off you could stop taking it for another couple of weeks and see if that helps?
Or perhaps DD is just going through some developmental changes, I know my DD got a bit grizzly at that age and I had (and still do) dramas putting her down for naps, she'd fight me.
Good luck, it could be as you said just normal baby behavior as they change so much, so quickly it's hard to keep up!
Small quantities get into the breast milk but the levels are so low that it is considered safe. But I do know of many mums who have had this happen. AF can affect the taste of the milk, so the mini-pill certainly could too. However, 3 months is a common time for fussiness at the breast anyway, so it could just be co-incidence.
If I were you, I'd keep going for a couple of days and see what happens. If it hasn't settled down then, maybe stop taking the mini-pill to see if it helps. Make sure you use other contraception though . If the mini-pill is the problem, there are other options for contraception. I can't take the mini-pill so I had the same problem while bfing. Your ob, gynae or a family planning clinic are the best people to talk to about contraception, many GPs are not up with the options for bfing mums. GL.
It could just be a stage bubs is going through. About 6 weeks ago we had a two week period where Brock just kept waking for a feed during the night even though he'd been sleeping through for a while. He was also more wakeful during the day. I put it down to a growth spurt as he's gone back to sleeping through and has been drinking less for about 4 weeks now.
thanks all for the replies....kristin27, i was starting to beat myself up thinking i was causing her to feel ill or something, but its good to hear from someone else using it with no problems, probably just a co-incidence.
