DS is only just 11 months but the 2 day sleeps are getting harder and harder to achieve. At what age did other babies drop the first sleep and what other signs should I be looking for?
Usually we feed to sleep for the afternoon nap but that isn't even working now. Please help....
It seems the transition to one sleep can happen any time around 12mths so it may be that he is ready!
DD is 14mths and still has two day sleeps, but most of the other bubs in my mums' group have been on one sleep now since anywhere between 10 and 14mths.
Unfortunately when they approach 12mths the general guidelines that you can apply to most babies tend to go out the window as each child has different sleep needs as they get older.
You could try extending his first period of awake time thru til 11am or 12noon, give him lunch before you put him down and see how long he sleeps for?
DD is exhausted after being awake for about three hours - I watch for tired signs, which for her are uncoordination, grumpiness/grizzling, yawning and rubbing eyes, then put her down. She couldn't last 4 or 5 hours.
But maybe your DS is ready! Try it out one day - if he goes to sleep easily and sleeps for a long period then I'd say he's ready.

Sometimes I'm sure my little boy is heading there (he's 11 1/2 months) and then all of a sudden he HAS to have his morning nap again or he has a complete meltdown.
Dd#5 had certainly got down to only one day sleep at this age (and none by two, argh).
Like Pandora, Tom is having one big sleep and one little one. He has about forty five minutes to an hour after breakfast, and then up to two hours in the afternoon.
DD1 didn't go down to one sleep until 18 months but DD2 went to one at 11 months. Her afternoon sleep was never more than 20-30 minutes anyway. She sleeps for 2-3 hours at 10am (she wakes about 5.30am though!). See if he goes ok with the one sleep. They do get a little cranky during the transition to one sleep but it's worth working through it. Good luck!
My DS dropped to one sleep at about 15 months. He was starting to be able to stay awake for longer in the mornings and so his morning nap just gradually became later and later each day. It took a couple of weeks to make the transition completely. Now he sleeps from about 11:30am until 2pmish.
I wasn't happy about it at first but now I love it! Because he won't sleep anywhere except in his cot, I always have to make sure I'm home for him to sleep. So now that he's having one sleep in the middle of the day I have more time to go out and I use his longer nap time to have my lunch and do some housework.
My DS, Changed from 2 to 1 sleep at just over 12 months... before that he was up and down for about 4 weeks (1 sleep one day and then 2 the next).. Eventually he stuck to one and that is generally at around 10.30 - 11am.
DS is 10.5 months and dropped his second day sleep a few weeks ago. Now he naps for 45mins tops at about 1pm but sometimes doesn't nap at all the during the day, he's not cranky at all but I wish he would sleep a bit so I could get things done!
