I use my extras ALOT

I get two free pairs of glasses a year and so do my kids, 2 out of the 3 actually need them also.. plus i can use it for physio and chiro, which are great for injuries.. (maybe with your DH and his hockey physio would be a good investment)

I pay about 60 a month for this (family cover) and its only for extras and ambulance cover (which is a MUST IMO)
