    Question Sickness allowance

I was just wondering if i would be eligible for sickness allowance?

I have GORD as well as stomach ulcers which means most nights i am awake for hours with horrendous pain in my chest/back and can stay with me all day. I've already had to call in sick twice at work. Its not even that but when i am in the middle of work i get it and have to sit down or go home.

I had thought about taking time off work but we really cannot afford it and it looks like ill be waiting well over 6 months to see a specialist.

I've read that i just need to get a medical certificate from my doctor to claim but is my condition 'bad' enough to be eligible for the payment? Will i be required to see a doctor that they reccommend.

    Any info is muchly appreciated.

I would think that if your Dr deems you unwell enough to not be able to work, he/she could fill out the paperwork for C/Link for you. Hope you are feeling better soon xoxo

You need to provide a medical certificate to centerlink for at least 6 months prior to being able to claim sickness allowance, well that's the way it used to be.... Just ask for the paper work and see what your dr says

Your Dr would need to provide a medical certitficate stating that you are unfit for work due to your medical condition. You don't need a medical certificate for any length of time prior. To get Sickness Allowance you need to have a job to return to otherwise your would be looking at Newstart Incapacitated.

You need to take into account that your partners income will effect your entitlement. Actually looking at your situation you would probably be better off claiming Parenting Paymnet Partnered as you wouldn't be required to lodge medical certificates all the time. Again this is all dependant on what your partner earns as to what you would be entitled too.

Oh then i guess im not entitled to it at all as we already claim PPP and we get like $20 a fortnight. Hmm well that sucks.

I think it is worthwhile talking to Centrelink telling them your circumstances and seeing what they recomend you do.

    Good luck withit all

sickness allowance would be "instead of" PPP - so if you get PPP, even at the low rate you're currently getting, there is nothing else that can be added there
