Tax and school building fund payments

Did you know your school building fund "payment" is actually a "donation", and as such its fully tax deductible?

I didnt, until my accountant told me today, just as he was finishing up my tax return and thought of it right at the very end.

Depending on the school it can be a lot, ours is $1150 for one child, 1400 for 2 etc. Its a family payment not per child, but its a lot of money, and not something you'd want to overlook the way we almost did.

Dh and I were only reviewing the fee's for the kids school the other night (they don't go to school yet) and no, I didn't know that!

Thanks for sharing! Dh will get excited when I tell him that!

    Yes, I knew that.

I don't think you have to pay it either.

I was wondering about that Tinks.

As it's a donation, what would happen if we chose not to pay it?
(Not that I wouldn't pay it, just curious lol)!
