My average (reading from the Elec bill) 18-24 kWh a day and the average cost for that would be $3.80- $5 a day.
That includes 2x fridges, washing machine, two 84cm tv (one LCD one normal), computer, Pool, Chest freezer, as the big items.
I've been reading through some electricity-related threads and there seems to be a huge variation in pricing across Australia (I cannot believe that I am paying nearly TWICE what country Victorians are paying and yet all we hear on teh telly is how expensive electricity is in Victoria..go figure).
ANYWAY, just trying to get an indication of whether our usage is high, or whether our pricing is just high.
We have an electric hot water system which uses off-peak electricity, 6.15 kJ per day
All the rest of our electricity is an average of 17.91 kJ so (all year) 24 kJ per day.
We have a gas space heater in the lounge, but electric oven and stove, run an fairly small fridge and a chest freezer, and a small bar fridge in summer, we have a smallish LCD, a dishwasher which we only ever use on eco option, and a dryer that we use only occasionally. An an evaporative aircon (much more efficient than a refrigerative).

I think the national avg is 16 units/day (that = kJ?)
we probably avg about 12-13 (was 18 before we got solar hot water)
MadB, where did you get that info from? And what type of household does it represent?
Do either of you have any gas appliances, or electricity all the way?
I have gas hot water... :-D
Wow i am going to sound bad but ours last quarter was 43 kwh per day! I've not idea how to get it down any lower. We have hot water, 1 fridge, 1 deep freezer, 1 air con, 1 reverse cycle air con, 1 114cm lcd tv, laptop is usually charging, washer and dryer. that's it i think.
well I was reallyhappy with my one I got yesterday our tariff 11 was 23.8 and tariff 33 5.2 the reason I was so excited was it was the same actually a smidge lower than this quater last year, and since then we have a veyr large AC 3 more ceiling fans, 2 more exhaust and a HW system tqice as big as our old one plus a large tv.......our house is physically twice the floor space due to reno's so to have the same kWh as last year was a huge![]()
The units are kWh. DH gets this info through talks and seminars through work. It might only be for the average Perth household
43 units. wow! do use your dryer a lot? that's a very common culprit. Old appliances will also be a drag, and the a/c definitely.
We have solar hot water, gas oven/stove and other stuff is electricity (including evap a/c). We have ducted gas heating, but we didn't use last winter as it crapped out. We just go solar panels put on so looking forward to future bills...
ETA - m yparents have solar hot water, but evap a/c, big plasma tv (bills go up when my brother's around) and other usual stuff and their average is 20-something. They also have pumps for the water (from tanks)
Bumping because I'm keen to hear more numbers please!
our average atm is 20.53kw not sure if thats the average over a year or just this time of year
Mine would be close to the minimum you could run - I do run a 3.5kw inverter split system air conditioner as well though.
Tariff 11 (Domestic 24 hours) 5.02kWh a day
Tariff 33 (Controlled Supply hot water) 2.78kWh a day
This is just for myself, my computer is about 10 years old but I have an LCD monitor; my fridge is new 315L, I only wash clothes about 3 times a week, I run a fish tank but don't need the heater on in Qld at this time of year, and my TV is an old CRT one, and just a set top box.
We just got our electricity bill, daily usage is 23.6 kWh. Same time last year was 10.7 kWh! $547.02 due.
We have recently had reverse cycle air conditioning put in which is why it's jumped so much. We have electric oven but gas hot water & hot plates. I don't have a dryer but wash everyday. We have a chest freezer outside, plasma tv is on every evening. That bill included DH using his mig welder HEAPS too.
Our last electricity bill was an average of 4 units per day, working out to $1.21 a day. But we have run our reverse cycle a/c a lot since then, so I expect our next bill to be a lot higher on daily consumption!

I just threw my last bill out, but I think my daily average was around $3.30 a day.
DH is quite anal about keeping costs low! Were only allowed to use the a/c when were absolutely dying from heat (as we were for the last 3 weeks). We use fans in the meantime. We have gas hot water, stove & oven. We don't leave any appliances on at the switch except microwave & DVD/BluRay/TV etc. We only wash clothes once a week (no kids yet - TTC). No dryer or dishwasher. No gardening appliances cause all we have is grass ATM but hopefully that will change soon! We turn off lights in rooms were not in & DH refuses to use the bathroom heating lights in winter. I use them when he's not home but if he is he tells me off, lol

Well it is pretty bad to admit this but our last bill was...... 62 units/day
Its been a stinking hot summer here so a/c has been running non-stop (I am very glad that its cooled down for a few days now!) we also have a pool to run and a massive 1200L saltwater tank filled with corals & fish so special lights are needed to keep everything alive. And we have all the usual household stuff too...
Getting back to hide under my chair!!![]()
