You're kidding me!! I've spent how much???!!!

I just got online to check my Medicare Tax Statement.

Last financial year (as in the one that finished two days ago), I spent over...wait for it...$28,000 in medical expenses

I knew it was a lot but $28,000......AND that doesn't count all of the things that aren't claimable (egg retrieval and transfer, medicine, etc, the hysteroscopy and the MRI I had to have) which would add ANOTHER $5000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So that's a total of over $33,000 spent in 12 months.

    I am in shock.

fark did you need a stiff one after that? that's a reasonable rebate at 20c in the dollar...

Actually anything over $2000 medical expenses directly offsets your tax payable - so unless you've paid more than $35000 tax this year, I am guessing you'll get it all back!

I thought you got back 20cents for every dollar over $1500 for out of pocket costs. Is this wrong??? I like your calculations much better!

wasn't my experience last year unfortunately - it was 20c after the first $1500 (which is 0) so $30,000 expenses = $5700 claim.
