Alright, so I want to go to the rally in Canberra...have been planning on it since I found out about it months ago...
Unfortunately though, DH has yet to find a job, he is Perth, I am in Melbourne and everything is pear shaped.
However, I have a car and a car seat and Canberra isnt THAT far of a drive..
How much will the petrol cost roughly anyone know? (It is a Honda Jazz)
Or perhaps the train?
The idea is to go up for the rally and come straight back again - I cannot afford to stay in Canberra...probably cant afford to go at really but hey, I'm trying! lol
So yeah...How to get to Canberra with an (almost) 2 year old...on stuff all money?
HELP!

Driving wouldn't be too bad. I went to Canberra on a coach for a school camp and we were there in 8-10 hours (with heaps of stops and numerous cars overtaking us). We spent $500 (32 hours driving total) getting to WA from Melbourne with a fully loaded 4WD so a Honda jazz shouldn't be too bad. With fuel costs though train might be cheaper and you can sleep on the way back if it's at night.

: specified driving time to WA
I can't make it due to being so close to having my baby.... but I am in the virtual rally My face is going to be on a placard down there. It makes me feel better knowing I am kinda there.
well i'm not going but if you are driving and need a place to crash on your way through or way home you are more than welcome to stay with us (we are in newcastle).......
We have a spare sofa bed and we arent weirdos
PM or FB message me - even if its last minute xx
Well have decided that it is probably cheaper to drive than train, and the train/buses all arrive Canberra in the early evening or late afternoon - which would mean having to stay over in canberra the night, which we certainly cannot afford.
Anyway, still in the air, but my sister might come if she can take the monday off work...
Thanks for the info girls
And Kristy thanks so much for the offer that is really lovely! I will keep it in mind if we go Thanks!
omg, i am such a der brain. If you were to stay at my place you would be driving about 5 hours OUT OF your way SInce newcastle is north of canberra!! For some reason i thought yu were coming from QLD. Oh well, if you fell like a road trip, go right ahead
alexis its about a 6 hour drive from melbourne, its an easy drive to albury as it a dual carriage HWY, from albury (though its been duplicated) some is still single lane, id highly recommend you take your sister and share the driving, its safer!! id leave early then get off the hwy at albury for brekky then keep going on to canberra! have fun!
Most of albury to here is dual carriage now. There weren't many singles when we drove back last month. Made me so happy! However we only went down for three days and it was more open on the way back. Could change at the drop of a hat/ And yeah it's about 6-7 hours depending on where you're driving from.
We have a 1995 Mazda and she took about $80 worth of fuel. I'd say $200 (inclusive both ways) to be safe.
