The last couple of days have been a whirlwind or emotions that I will have to start putting down into words so I can post it all in a birth story. But I will give a quick run down on the birth and what followed...

Little Shayla decided to be extremely kind and come after a good nights rest which was extremely appreciated. Unlike Kyson's birth which started with my waters breaking, Shayla's birth began with my waters intact and contractions beginning. With Kyson's birth we arrived at the hospital to find out I was 8cm dilated already, so I was surprised that after being at the hospital a couple of hours I was checked by my Ob and was only 3cm dilated. He broke my waters in the hopes of speeding things along. Well it worked... Half hour later I was pushing her out! I still can't believe how fast I went from 3cm to birthing her.

Official records state length of birth 3hrs 19 mins
2nd stage 7 mins
3rd stage 7 mins.

I gave birth to her on my knees on the bed touching her head the whole time and pulled her out into my arms myself. It was absolutely amazing. Also, no tearing or even grazing.

Next morning we were all set to go home and was just waiting on the Paed to come give the all clear. Unfortunately our plans were dashed when he heard a heart murmur. Luckily the cardiologist was in the hospital and able to do an ultrasound and echo straight away. He found a few things with her heart that concerned him. Shayla was admitted into the SCN for monitoring. I was shattered and was a blubbering mess all day and night.

As of this morning Shayla has had another ultrasound and things are looking more promising at this stage. We're basically faced with 3 scenarios, with two of them leading to surgery (one fairly mild, the other more major). Shayla is still doing amazingly well though, and with great observations all last night and today's better news they have let me bring her back to my room with the monitoring still running, and she is currently snuggled in my arms having a feed. She's a great little breastfeeder like her brother

Fingers crossed that things continue to look good and that we can avoid any surgery!

I am so sorry to hear you little girl may need surgery, hopefully this need doesn't arise, but either way she has two amazing parents who will shower her with love and care through whatever needs to happen, I have everything crossed that things will be ok

I know how emotional it is with a bubba in the SCN babe, its very frightening when things are uncertain but she will be in the best of care - just get as many skin to skin cuddles as you can, I swear these are better than any medical intervention I wish I could give you a massive big hug!! Keep us posted when you can

Krystie, I cannot WAIT to read more about her birth! That sounds amazing!
