6 week checkup - what to expect

dd was 6 weeks on saturday & im booked in for my 6 week checkup this afternoon and i have no idea what to expect. with ds i didnt really have a check - just went back to the hospital for a gd follow up.

i read something that said doctors do a full check, including an internal i do need a pap smear so i might as well get that fun out of the way

anyway - would anyone like to share what happened at your checkup?

mods - hope this is the right section.

from what I remember, they just asked how everything was going, checked my stitches had healed (I had an epi) and I'm fairly sure they did a pap smear. I don't think it took too long at all and wasn't very strenuous. Pap smear hurt a bit more than it normally would I think.

Yep I think what SS said is about what I can recall as well - general check, check of the nether regions and a pap smear. And yes, my smear was a bit more ouchy as well!

    You'll be fine hun

ETA: my GP might have done a boob check as well... just prepare yourself for that one in case

I had a c/s and my OB just felt my stomach, poked my scar, asked if I was still bleeding, asked about contraception and asked if I was still breastfeeding (which was 2 half feeds a day), and told me to get a pap smear.

    No drama.

I read that too, Sloane and was terrified after having serious tearing. I was in tears before I was even there!

Dr checked DD over, checked reflexes, just generally looked at her. Asked me 'are you depressed' and thats pretty much it. Didnt touch me, commented only on DD and never really asked me anything except the depressed thing. I was due for a pap smear when I found out I was pregnant and was going to decline at the 6wk checkup cause nothing, no way was going near me! I had it done 15 months later with a community nurse. So if thats not someting you feel ready to have done you can put it off till you feel 'up to it'.

As above, but I didn't have a smear done. Takes about 5 mins really and is fairly innocuous.

Mine the same as others and definitely a pap smear - my OB is big on checking for the nasties. All in all it was pretty quick and painless

OBS went through my labour & birth and asked if I had any questions. Asked how DD was now being fed. I also got a prescription for the pill and he did a pap smear for me. That was about it

They should do the post partum screening tool for post natal depression, my GP asked about contraception then proceeded to tell me off for not being on any she also did a breast check and pap smear as I was overdue. Nothing else.

Mine was quick and nothing major - asked how we were going, did I want a contraceptive and if I was healing okay. Checked my c/s scar and that was about it. Don't think I'm due for a pap till end of this year so he didnt do one. He did do an internal tho to check all was normal and I agree it was a little more painful then before. Can't imagine what it would have been like for someone after a v. Delivery! Lol

Other than commenting on her being cute, my OB didn't look at either of my DDs - they stayed out with Mum. I had an appt with the paed who checked them over in the hospital at birth for them at about the 6 week mark too.

Maybe its different though between private and public?

went in, doc took one look and said you noth look healthy. Checked DDs heart rate, checked her hips looked at her belly button and felt her spine. Took my blood pressure asked about contraception and that was it
