    6 weeks postpartum checkup

I had my 6 weeks postpartum checkup yesterday with my OB and he asked how I was feeling and asked whether I was having/feeling any pain/discomfort in my perineum area where I had a 2nd degree tear during the birth of my baby. I said that it was quite painful for the first 2-3 weeks, but that the pain has dissapeared and that I am feeling fine. We talked about birth control, breastfeeding, how I was coping with my baby and then he checked my heart rate, blood pressure and palpated my tummy to feel for any tenderness and palpated my ovaries.

He did not do a papsmear as I had one just before I fell pregnant so said that I would be due for my next papsmear next year September 2011. He also didn't do a pelvic examination which I don't mind one bit about, but I was kind of thinking that he would to just double check my tear was healing and that everything looked ok. I'm not too worried about it and guess neither is my OB, but was just wondering whether this could be normal to not have a pelvic exam at your postpartum checkup?

Thanks heaps for taking the time to read my post.

I had an 8 week check with ob/gyne at the hospital yesterday (only because I had a third degree tear), if it wasn't for the fact that I had to have a pap smear she wouldn't have checked either.

I had 33 stitches after birth, didn't get a pelvic at the 6 week pp check up either .

I had a 3rd degree tear verging (sp?) on 4th and I havent had a pelvic examination yet! Actually at 'my' 6 weeks check I wasnt even touched, no blood pressure...nothing. I was simply asked 'are you depressed', that was the extent of it

I think a lot of women tended to find this uncomfortable so they ask instead of look. If you said you were still experiencing pain then I think they'd check then. Gives new mums a bit of privacy

My 6 week check I actually had to ask the dr to make sure the stitches and everything down there was healing well. I thought it was routine...
