    After Birth Pains....

who has experienced them, that they are aware of?? And were they really bad for you???

I ask this because, I was totally caught off guard with them. I had never even heard of them! And....I experienced very very bad after birth pains, so much so, that they ended up giving me something strong to cope with them. I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced very strong after birth pains....as a family member of mine basically called me a Martyr behind my back because the pains were bad (for me).

I think every woman gets them after having a baby. Some get them very mild, others get them really bad. With Nina mine weren't too bad, and after having Emily they were a little worse. It's perfectly normal, just your uterus contracting back to its original size.

They were the worst for me after my second baby - I had to take panadol around 1/2 hr before a feed for a day or so. With the other three is wasn't too bad. There is another thread on here about it too.

ETA - can't find the other thread.

I never noticed them with my first, but they got worse as i had each one after that. The last one's were bad enough that i had to take panadeine for them. I'm not looking forward to them this time

I had them, they were worse than the contractions - more like normal period pain. The hospital gave me Ponstan, but I swapped to Panadol soon after because I lost the Ponstan. I had them for a couple of weeks every time I fed. My midwife said they get worse with subsequent births and that most women don't feel them with their first. Something to look forward to for number 2

They deffinately get worse with each pregnancy. With my fourth they were so bad it felt like I was giving birth again, I had to have the gas. They lasted a few days every time I breastfed but subsided gradually.
