Ah well we always knew it was going to be like that I guess. Thats why we need numbers to overcome one organisations biased view formed to protect the boys club and their wallets.

    Oh yeah certainly no surprises.

The sections on indemnity and intervention rates were particularly worthy I thought

They go to great pains to point out that obstetricians don't want their medical indemnity insurance pushed up even further because they have to "put out fires" resulting from midwifery led care...well for once they're at least being honest about their motives.

    Ugh.

I'm not in a state of mind to read this thorughly, however just form a skim this really peeved me off -

Australia has high quality maternity services which have historically been medically led and which broadly meet the needs of the population and there is no case for radical change.
Why is not having doctors and intervention RADICAL. I still don't get how that can be pigeon holed as RADICAL.

    Load of crap.

    To quote page 11 :

"Maternal satisfaction is a function of one on one care which is a luxury that cannot be afforded in most clinical situations"

I can't post my true thoughts here as they will be moderated and deleted!

We support choice BUT it should be a choice between equally effective and safe models of
    care.
Basically, "we support choice as long as we choose the choices you get..."

    Post-natal depression
This is a serious issue and shows the importance of strong medical involvement in maternity care
Yes, because MORE medical involvement is what we need

I just can't bring myself to read it, but I can predict what would be in there. They HAVE to force their case like that because it is them that will lose out if there is reform and the balance of 'power' swings to midwifery/team based led care. My only concern is that because of who they are, that their 'opinion' will carry more weight than ours. I actually think it would have been a conflict of interest for them to even make a sibmission because they have a vested financial interest in the industry and any changes made could possibly affect them financially, so of course they are going to sling as much **** as they can to sully the idea of midwife/team based care.

Are they seriously suggesting you wont get post natal depression if you see an OB, or that you have a lower chance of getting it? I assume there are extensive independant studies to support this that they have referenced?
